How do you handle this?

At a large hunt this weekend with a 4 dog cast. Guide says we are hunting in thick coon and he has feeders to expect some layups. The first tree comes 5 minutes into the hunt with the guides dog blowing up treed. 2 of the dogs are at the tree but milling around with no interes and the 4th dog is gone. Given the conditions we are hunting in we expected a layup and vote to circle. I run the 8 and we recast. 10 minutes later same situation. I try to minus the tree but get outvoted so we circle it too. This happened 2 more times before we decide to move. We are now down to 3 dog cast and same situation in a new spot. 2 dogs did go on to run a track and tree with the same dog blowing up treed with them. He made 2 more trees alone with no coon seen. I will be the first to say the other dogs should have went hunting and ignored this dog but what can you do if the cast refuses to minus any tree. Had i not been so mad over the whole situation and been thinking clearly i could have scratched him for being continously silent but hindsight is 20/20. The dog finished the cast with 1450 circle and no coons scored

I would have showed up with a dog that would have left his slick treeing but in the first place .Always keep your cool in a hunt and don't worry about what the other dogs are doing , just hunt one you know will tree a coon! If you get mad your beat already .

I assume it was a UKC hunt. With circle he didn't win. The other dogs had every chance to tree a coon. Guess they didn't. You tried to do the right thing and your to be congratulated on that. What you described is kind of the way the sport is trending. The bad thing that would of got my goat is if the slick treeing circle dog hung around long enough to get lucky and have a coon in one of those trees and won. Then that wouldn't have been right. Way it turned out maybe the guy that owns the dog, will get a good nights rest and understand its time to move the dog down the road.
Slick treeing circle tree dogs are easy to beat. Coon Eyes Matter!
Anyone hunting against a dog making 7 circle slick trees and his dog can't find one coon to win on buckets, should have a talk with his dog.

I would just chalk it up to how the game is played and hope you don't draw that combination of dogs and handlers again. With that said in a few minutes one of the other guys in the cast will be on here saying it didn't happen anyway close to how you described it. So all I have to say is let the fun begin and I apologize in advance for even discussing this post.

I bet your 100% right on that one, and I bet the slick tree'er was a thyroid dog lol

I think its been ruled that you cant scratch a dog for being silent on track until the very end of the hunt, Because he might or its possible for him to open the last few minutes of your hunt.

I think many years ago Todd K (hate to drag you into this) mentioned in one post when we were talking about silent dogs. Said he had never seen one scratched for being silent.
With silent dogs two things happen. Generally in the beginning of the hunt (fist turnout) it gets pitched. Then it can be said it isn't silent.
The guy talking about buckets and lay ups has a clue in his message. Silent dog. Just setting the stage for whats going to happen. I think silent dogs should be allowed. If they ain't treeing coon they still ain't going to win. OK you say they ain't allowed cause they will win titles and get bred which is wrong. They are getting bred anyway. Suck it up and hunt all of them.

The dog was a thyroid dog and after hunting the spot i dont think there were any buckets or coon there. I wasnt sure about when to scratch for silent because its not real clear

Scratching for silent would have probably been hard. You did the best you could and was out voted. Had that happen with a good payday on the line. But it all averages out in the end. One bad night shouldn't spoil a lifetime of fun. For more than a day or two anyways.

Go get them next weekend and thanks for at least being responsible enough to step up and judge. It's a Thankless Job.

Thats how i see it to Bruce. My dog is a nice pleasure dog but hes not the deep lonely and independant type. I did expect more out of him but their dogs and they have a mind of their own sometimes. It was for a good cause so i will chalk it up to experience and move on.

I don't mean any disrespect but that's kind of like being mad at a dog for running deer all night and yours going with it. The other dogs had 2 hours to get a coon treed and didnt do it.
