Like Red, BUT
I've had a darn good Bluetick and Black-Tan.
Bawl on track and chop on tree (have had a good one that was bawl at the tree also) treeing is like a baseball player, don't care if he's left handed or right, don't care if they belly rub or sit back. They have to be right 80 percent of the time or more. This strain I started hunting in 1960's and I have not ever had any that were mean. I have seen it in other hounds I have owned, first time is their last-period!! (For those that think you can fix it, after you screwed up a nice young pup or lost a good hunting partner, you'll learn)
Has to pack and work together--I'll be dam if I'm going to hunt an independent hound that won't track and tree with others.
Has to be open on track-let me know when they smell coon and then again after they got it figured out all the way to the tree. If I want to just listen to some barking dog, I could save money by not owning any and sit in the truck at the junk yard and have their dogs P O at me??
Get out of my light and hunt out a 1/4 to 1/2 mile and if nothing, check back. This go until treed doesn't work where I hunt. They'll either get ran over or you'll have company waiting at the truck.
Have to have heart and brains---over 60 years following coon hounds, beagles and fox/coyote hounds, those are 2 things you can not train in a hound.
