I personally had two redbones that weren't worth feeding...kept them for about a year until I decided to sell them...haven't never seen a redbone running and treeing at 6 months old ever I don't believe but if you got one, like rob said you have a good one..
Imo either an English or plott and the occasional walker is where it's at.

I have hunted Blue dogs for years.

But I am half owner of a Nite Champion Tequila Sunrise female and a litter of pups out of her and Bone Collector.

There are good hounds in every breed.

Running and treeing what at 6 months ? A hide ? A cage ? I haven't seen one any color getting it done at six months.

Don't let the guys who don't like reds bother you. Just hunt what you like. It's all part of it, they make fun of our dogs that don't hunt and we make fun of dogs that slick a lot. I've had a few walker guys tell me after the last two bigger hunts I was in that they didn't like reds but liked the one I was leading and one of them even said he didn't mind getting beat by him either. We all shook hands and had good hunts. Oh yeah, last Monday night my dog was at 900 yards before he got struck and he was in some rough straight up and down stuff......the furthest I've had him go from where I turned him loose was 1.4 mile and that was on a mountain in the Jefferson National Forest, I sat on top of my dogbox with my Garmin.........some reds do hunt. 😃

I personally prefer Blueticks and Black&Tans. There are plenty of good dogs of all colors, but I seem to always be drawn to the blue and black dogs.

i was always told if a guy wanted a red one that would go hunting to look out in your area. No doubt you have a Good one but they are pretty few and far between, and not because they are out numbered. Like I said if his dog is as he says it's worth a million dollars.

Walkers

I have always hunted walkers, just my preference. Now when I was growing up I had a buddy who hunted Redbones and plotts, I can honestly say he went through at least 20 redbones till he got one that would hunt and tree a coon. They were some pretty hounds, think he actually had a Wshch, might be wrong. But I have never ever seen a plott hound tree a coon in my life and I've only been hunting since 1975 or 76.

I haven't owned a bunch but the best I owned was a walker. I own a redbone now and see these replies that redbones don't hunt. This is my first one and this boy hunts. He goes as far as he has to to tree a coon but doesn't hunt in a straight line like my Walker did.

What I typed was my own experience. I'm not saying they won't hunt or tree. What I was saying is that guy, Lenny Ando, bought at least 20 hounds in a 2 year period that wouldn't.
