I'm 14 living with my parents my coonhound is my dog but they don't take care of it properly they let the dog run anywhere and do whatever not a care in the world but he's constantly running rabbits and they won't listen to me to keep him on his runner in the yard like he should be I can't break him cause they encourage him to run rabbits my parents are very annoying and never listen cause they don't care about anything It's good when I'm home but I m forced to go to school now but I guess 4 years left of this ******** till I'm 18 but will running rabbits kill a hounds treeing instinct.

To start with your parents do care about you or they would have put you up for adoption or not adopted you. Secondly they don't owe you anything. Thirdly start taking the dog hunting and show him raccoon. He should be advanced on running a track.

Just try to show the dog that coons are what your after and he should forget those rabbits. Most importantly get your education, it's more important than any coondog!!

Running rabbits absolutely should not mess up your dogs "ability" on coon. If you coon hunt him where there's a good rabbit population and he really likes them it could be bothersome and it could sure mess you up in a comp hunt, but if your just a pleasure hunter they're probably not hurting your dog's ability to tree a coon much at all. Maybe you should just let the whole family enjoy your dog and make it part of the family. When your all grown up and on your own there will be plenty of dogs to be raised just how you want but don't rush yourself out of the nest. You may find yourself one day yearning for the good old days when your parents liked to let your coon dog run rabbits IMO.

they care about me a lot just not the dog like letting him run on the road and he almost gets hit but they treat me good and with care they're just not responsible with my dog

Most guys let dogs run everything in the world then once the dog trees well will slowly break them off the other stuff. Had a dog who loved rabbits, could burn a track with the best but once she was going good on coons it wasn't a problem again.

chasing rabbits? you say that like it's bad. I like my dogs to run those swamp rabbits. I like seeing eyes in a tree but seeing and hearing my dogs run rabbits, tree possums, pursue fox, it's all good, except chasing deer.

At 10 months old if hes runnin rabbitts he should be put up and hunted at night. It aint mom and dads place to take care of him. Build a kennel or get him a chain and a dog house. Feed and water daily!! When it gets dark put your boots on and take him out if hes trailin rabbit it wont be long he will be trailin coons. I personally like a pup that shows intrest in runnin anything. Its the ones that lay on the porch i dont get along with!!
