This story has been running in papers and on tv all over the place, even abroad. I hope it wasn't the owner who shot these dogs and left them next to a public road to rot where everyone could see them. Could be it was someone who didn't want hounds crossing their land trying to send a message, but if any of us had lost seven hounds, there would probably be a reward out offered by the owner. Please, if you have to put dogs down, do it discreetly!
If the rescue people find out, they will assume it was the owner no matter what the actual story is and they know how to activate the anti-hunting publicity machine...

Shot in the head behind their ear. We thought at first hunting dogs but there are 3 German Shepherds and a Beagle along with 2 hounds and one looks like a Lab mix. This is what the rescue group said later but it is still being betrayed as all hunting dogs by the media.

I read the comments on a couple of the articles the other day and many were talking about at the end of hunting season that this was common. I don't know one single hunter who would break a dogs neck then shoot their own dogs, looks like someone p!$$@& off someone to me.

I don't know any hunter that would dump his own dead dogs in public view either, but that narrative that hunters routinely do this at the end of season is fairly common in rescue circles, especially as regards deer dogs. It looks to me like someone was trying to send a message to the dogs' owner. What's especially off about this is that no one has spoken up to say these dogs were their missing dogs, or if they have there's no publicity--just pictures of dead dogs and the rescue persons dubious conclusion.
There's been another story making the rounds recently, but nowhere near as widespread, about a dog that was shot during the recent Trenton deer dog trials sponsored by the Hunting Gundog association. In that case, the Eastern Carolina Houndsmen Alliance and other hunting clubs have offered a reward for information leading to the arrest of the shooter. That makes more sense to me.

The article said the dogs were shot in the head AND had their necks broke, seems quite strange. I think it was a shelter that ran out of room.

This is a very sensitive subject and i have my strong views on how some dogs need to be handled for bettering of a breed but that is not a topic to discuss here.

Lets not forget that the humane society and other groups kill dogs and cats by the truck load. Sometimes these are done in far less humane methods. So all this feel good bleeding hurt people really need to take their blinders off and see the bigger picture.

They looked like mutts to me, not full blooded hunting stock. Everybody outside of the hunting community sees any tri-colored dog and automatically thinks it's a "Hunting" dog. That sucks for us because if anything ever happens to them we get blamed. If I was a betting man I'd say that some woman was taking in every stray off the streets and keeping them up, then when she cheated on her old man he got back at her.

It wouldn't be too far fetched for me to believe it was a staged deal by these anti-hunting groups. Besides Them being WACKOS they are an Evil Bunch and will go to the EXTREME to make it look like "we" the hunters are bad people and them being the "good guys" . They will use the media and lots of $$$$$$$$ to make it happen - they'll do whatever it takes and if you think they wont you've got your head in the sand !!
They are coming after our sport , you mark it down guys !
The trappers didnt think so and the rodeo folk didnt either . Heck did you even see em shutting down the Circus ????
It's all about baby steps with them .

If there is anything that will get me fired up its the H$US and their deceiving agenda about their "love" of animals !

Here in NC they caught PETA killing dogs and throwing the bodies in a dumpster. They had picked up around twenty dogs from two animal shelters and killed them with drugs before they got far. It went to court and they got off.

PETA does have two shelters; but they also have a 97% kill rate. HSUS does NOT operate a single shelter.

Some don't look like hounds at all and the ones that do sure as hell don't look like they have been hunted in a long time if ever, they're pretty fat.
