Question///Advice???

😕 😣 😟
Had this dog for little over yr now. Last January I killed seven coons with him , and didn't hunt for two weeks of January. But lately all I've been doing is getting hollow tree's and slicks . Since January 9 I've nocked out 3 coons ,one tree was a double but I only nocked 1 of them out, 1 he had been milling around in the area and so I went over and I treed it he had already left and went on so I marked the tree and brought him back to area later that night he ended up treeing that coon,.. seems like all hes been treein is slicks and hollows ,one night had 5 hollow trees.Been Huntin him about 4 /// 5 nights a week. It is now taking him longer to tree and he's doing a lot more milling around almost as if he's lost his confidence, what to do ???? Should I keep putting him in the woods and let him work his way through it or should I quit hunting for a bit and letting him think about it or what??. Only had a handful of dogs and never had one do this so im lost ,.Any advice would be appreciated Thanx..

rutting coon

This is a hard time of the year for a young dog to tree a coon constantly, because the coon or rutting, they climb a lot off trees checking for a female.
I would change were i was hunting and turn loose around a small creek or a cow feeder and try to hit more hot coon tracks . A good hot track makes a dog look better sometimes .
Good luck January is always a hard month in the Ozarks.
