Jealous Tree

I heard some hunters talking about a dog that would "jealous tree". What does that mean?

I have used that term to describe a bad tree made by a pup when another dog falls treed and the pup doesn't want to cover but it wants to ge treed too so it slides over 30 yards and trees on a slick tree. I know a jealous tree is a slick tree but "jealous" desribes the reason it slicked. It usually seemed to go away with maturity.

its usually a dog that doesn't believe in the other dog but believes in itself right or wrong and usually is wrong, sometimes it comes from getting ate up at the tree and it wants to tree but wants no part of being on there with another dog, sometimes its just a dog that has been petted to much at a tree and it does not tree till you get right there and falls on a tree close to you,

But in this instance, we aren't discussing "jealous at the tree", we are talking about dogs that tree on a jealousy tree. Two completely different situations and i haven't observed one having anything to do with the other.

Someone should build a computer program where we could completely spec our version of the perfect comp dog then hunt them head to head on the computer and see who wins, Michaelis or Tar?

Where i have seen it is in young dogs that are independent or possibly overly independent, assuming one can be too independent. Anyway, as i said, it generally goes away with maturlty. I cant recall seeing it with an adult dog.

We all have our place in life. For instance, i have always figured myself amongst the worthless and no account which is exactly how every daughters mother has always described me. You, on the other hand, are a contrair. Always contrary. We cant escape our place in life.

This is like: what the definition of is, is........

People have their own definition of what the term means. It's another way of saying slick treeing. The term don't work if you are hunting alone.

Basically a dog hears another dog tree and grabs a tree of it's own. .
