Smart pup

I have a pup right now that I haven't started in the woods yet. I am thinking of starting her soon. Right now, exercise is important. I find that a pup full of energy doesn't learn to well. Use exercise to knock that energy level down first works much better.

Right now, I am using a large rope they sell with knots at both ends tied to a small rope tied to the end of a long sapling. I let her chase the rope as I turn in circles. If she catches the rope, I let her tug on the rope. I don't really pull back, but just hold it still. Twenty to 30 minutes of this takes that energy edge off.

Recently, I got tired before she did. I sit the rope down, and sat on the ground. She was behind me. I watched out the corner of my eye as she slowly stalked up to me. Then she stepped right up beside me. She was watching the rope on the ground and wouldn't look at me. Then with one swift movement she turned facing me raising her muzzle up flipping my hat and light off my head. Then she grabbed the rope on the ground in front of me and ran off with it. She then stopped dropped the rope backed off it about 3 feet and stood there facing me. She then started doing a quick nod of her head. I just sat and watched. When she wasn't getting the response she wanted she started doing a fake out move with her front legs. I started laughing at her.

If she can use her head like that in the woods, I maybe in for some fun!

Larry I think you have a smart pup! What you are doing is letting her have fun and you are learning her at the same time. I love working with pups. Its all about fun for me and the dogs.
