Alpha / TT10 Collar issues BRUCE CONKEY

I have a TT10 Collar dilemna, and Googling kept bringing up one name for assistance: Mr. BRUCE CONKEY

Bruce, here's what happened just a few days ago.

1. Dog was out hunting, the Alpha was getting a reading from the TT10 collar that the dog was stopped out at 300 yards, but the indicator showed moving.

2. Dog came into me, but Alpha still showed that he was out there at the same 300 yard point, still showing via running pointer arrow that he was moving.

3. The tone function still worked on the collar, the light was also still doing the green flashing. According to Alpha, the collar battery was still charged at around 75%

4. I took collar off dog, tried to shut it off with intent to turn it back on, you might say REBOOT it. I pushed the on/off button, the little light turned to a solid red but collar wouldn't shut down. little solid red light stayed on, no matter how many times I pushed button

5. Got home, took battery pack apart, disconnected battery, then reconnected it. Via push button, tried to turn collar on again but nothing, no lights, nothing.

6. Put collar on charger, light turned red as if charging. I left it on for a few minutes.

7. Took collar off charger, pushed the on/off button to turn it on. Collar light started to do the green flashing. Tested collar in the yard, moved it around a few spots and it seemed to be working ok.

8. Put all collars on charger. All showed the solid red light, 2 of them, when fully charged, showed the green light. Collar in questions light stayed red, though had to of been fully charged.

9. According to Alpha, the collar shows 100% charged. I haven't had a chance to go hunting yet to see if collar truly is working correctly.

10. Bruce, what is going on here? Is there a hard reboot or update I can do on this collar? THNX in advance!

.

The answer for 1-7 is you did exactly what you should of did and the problem is one of several things. One simple and the rest beyond you and me. lol When the GPS circuit goes bad due to the GPS circuit or one of the actual components (antenna, wire, connector) it will start to give false indication of where the dog is. Sometimes when you or getting conflicting indications as your experiencing like at 300 yards but moving the best I can explain it in simple terms is many signals come across the VHF antenna. Some are getting trough and some are not. First thing I would do is take your VHF antenna of and see if there is corrosion in the connection. Clean it up and reinstall. I am assuming your antenna isn't chewed and bent up.

Now for your second issue. Look at your contact points close and one sometimes gets tarnished or turns a different color. Clean it up with rubbing alcohol and that might fix the charging problem. Also the contact on the clip have gotten stuck and the little pins might not be making contact. As long as it is charging I would just work around the indication.

It is safe to perform the reset on a Mac computer but use a windows computer to perform any updates. To perform a master reset:

Ensure the device is powered off
Connect charging clip to collar
Connect USB cable to collar
Connect USB cable to power source (computer, AC wall adapter)
Ensure collar light is active to confirm connection
Firmly press the Power Button 4 times (each button press should produce a quiet tone from the collar)
Wait for light to turn green then red

Much appreciated, thank you!

"IF" collar ends up being shot, I guess I can send it to Garmin and for something like $99 they'll return to me a refurbished unit?

Do you have contact/address for the Garmin repair unit?

Again, Bruce, thanks. I've been a customer of yours probably 3-4 times in the past

Actually you call Garmin at 1800-800-1020 and they give you a RMA number and where to send it. Yes, last price check was around $99
