Eye problem! [With picture] Need help (Doc)

Noticed this tonight while feeding. She hasn't been in the woods in a few weeks and there's nothing for her to jab her eye on in the kennel. She's an old feist and has had problems with her face swelling a few times this summer, one of which was a copperhead bite. I'm taking her to the vet in the morning, but I'm looking for advice right now from knowledgeable people. I've never seen this before and have no clue what caused it. The left side of her head is swollen as well as the base of her ear, she's had ear infections all year and I've been trying my best to keep them in check but it's an ongoing battle. I put saline in her eye to try to lubricate it and cleaned out the straw that was stuck to her eyelid. She's inside in an effort to keep it clean, but I don't know what else to do for her tonight.
Has anyone seen this? Any help is appreciated

I will bump up a post of mine. Ended up taking mine to a vet and got a steroid/antibiotic cream that can only be got with a Rx. It was back to normal in a week. Sometimes the vets want to do surgery and cut it out but would rather not because it causes dry eye. You can get an over the counter antibiotic cream called terramycin that will help. It is possible that something is stuck under the 3rd eye lid too.

Good choice. Need to examine under that 3rd eyelid first and examine the cornea before deciding on which medications to use.

Good luck!

Well to say that I'm pretty aggravated at how the vet visit today went would be an understatement. Took her in with a scheduled appointment and had to wait 2 hours before I could even see the vet. Once the vet saw her eye she said "Bring her back in 2 days, I cant tell what the problem is right now." They charged me $54 for nothing so I won't be going back there. We'll be making the long trip to my hound vet tomorrow if I can get ahold of him. Hopefully it won't be too late to do her some good. Thanks to everybody who has replied on here trying to help, I truly appreciate it. I'll be giving her a 25mg benadryl a 250mg antibiotic and some Terramycin to get her through the night. I don't think she likes the cone I put around her head much but hopefully it'll keep her from messing with the bad eye.

I talked to my regular vet tonight and I'll get her to him tomorrow. He has said pretty much the same things yall have. Keep it moist and as clean as I can and just be patient with it because it's not an overnight fix.

This little dog has been through a lot and has never let it affect her. She's my little truck and Farm buddy so I hate to see anything bad happen. The man I got her from, Terrence Bailiff, said she was the mother to a WorldSqCh but I can't confirm that. I know he has a nice male out of her, but I haven't seen her come in heat since I've had her so I doubt that she'll ever be bred again. Just enjoying life on the farm with all the blessings God has afforded us. Thanks again everybody.

Took her to my hound vet today and he determined that a rotten tooth in the back of her mouth caused an absess that was putting pressure on her eye. He's keeping her tonight, pulling the tooth and cleaning the rest of them. He said she should be back to normal in a few days once that tooth is out and she has antibiotics running through her system.

He thought it was cherry eye or an infected tear duct like many of yall thought, but upon further examination he determined the cause was her teeth. I said all that to say this. I greatly appreciate and have a lot of respect for vets that do their job well and don't just see their patients as a paycheck. The ones who actually care and take pride in their job are few and far between, but those that make up the small percemtage are worth their weight in gold. Thanks guys.

Oh yeah, I paid the same price today as I did yesterday, but for a whole lot more, real results, flea meds for the house dogs, and some rabies shots to boot. Can't beat it!
