The sport has changed !

It's been priced out of reach for the working man. Not everybody can take off work for a week , take their savings out of the bank, and drive all the way across the USA to go to a hunt. There is a reason that the same names come up in the winners circle every time it's because they are the only ones that can afford it !! And every time I hear this crap about moving major hunts more centrally located it is always 13+ hours from here !! Sooner or later it's going to dawn on sombody that there's anouther half of the United States that's not getting utilized and it will get interesting !! Won't have all the major hunts up there up each other's butt crack jmo !!

Not everybody can play pro football, baseball, Basketball, etc. either. Takes more than want. How ever I believe UKC is coming out with participation badges next year so you may be in luck.

Ed I been in more hunts when I was younger than most !! Don't know where you live but come down here with the bunch I hunt against and you might have a different opinion !! Y'all wouldn't be scared of a little armadillo would you. By the way over the years I have made that 13+ hr drive more times than I can count I ain't no amateur if you think I am come hunt with me.

I'd take my half and go protest at Kalamazoo. Burn some ukc stickers or something.

Hunts

You will never have to worry about a major hunt being held here in the north country where I live. We have coon, porkies, coyotes, porkies, bear, porkies, bobcat, porkies, badgers, porkies. Heck I even showed Todd Kellam some prime bird hunting spots and guess what his dogs got into? PORKIES. So I can promise that when the U.K.C. top brass gets into them there will never be a major event up here.

Ed me too ! But everybody is talking numbers are down I am telling you why but I don't understand it if you own a buisness and you see a place to go make money were there is less competition were you would have have the whole market to your self why in the world would you want to be stuck in there with everybody else fighting for the same $$$ you just take Texas , Oklahoma, and Louisiana for instance how many northern states could you put in that territorie ? Hear is what I have seen a lot of people from down here don't participate in the majors up there because of the distance and the expense plus most of the major players have their own hunting spots leased at those hunts and they are there a week or two before conditioning their dog were as you are just stuck with what you are stuck with !! Not and even playing feild ! Plus some dogs just don't take that hauling good time you get there you and dog are wore out ! And more times than not broke too ! Not whining but like I have said before been doing this for years change it up some get out of the comfort zone a little E stands for effort I think we need more jmo!

Major hunt

CHKC has their world hunt in Ky. That's not 13 hours away. Ukc world moves around. PKC moves their hunts around too. Are you talking about the hunts that have been established for 30+ years?
Oh yeah by the way I am afraid of armadillos. Lol and porkies, lived and hunted in NY. Bad, bad bad news

Tar, one big problem is we here in the south WILL drive the distance when we have a good dog but to many in the mid west WILL NOT! I've listened to people complain that 150 miles was to far to drive to THEIR breed hunt. I know others that drive over 1500 miles to theirs.

13 hour drive wouldn't get me half way there. I've done it but have no desire to do it anymore. Nobody's choice or fault but my own that I live where I do. We used to drive 8-12 hours one way to a club hunt every weekend there wasn't one around home. And by around home I mean within 4 hours.

.

Tar, I hear you and you make a good point. Thing is if the hunts were held in your location the guys at the other locations could make the same argument you do, for why they should be in their back yard. Each KC is a different game. If I choose to pay an entry to play in any of them you can bet I am traveling a long ways. Now SC has stepped up and is helping that distance to be shortened with a few big hunts. Problem is this year my schedule won't let me get there so there always seems to be something.

It is hard but it is business and if there are several other business models doing something one way and yours shows it could be done differently. Then one of two things can happen. You can get rich changing the business model or go broke because the other guys already knew better.

I don't think there is anything more frustrating than to be an aging coon hunter. Your mind and experience tells you how things should be done and how much you want to do, but your body has a different story. I have had a long and wonderful life with very few aches and pains. Well that is changing quickly. Problem is I can still enjoy life with the aches and pains I am getting, as long as traveling through swamps at night isn't on the agenda. I want to travel the swamps.

Tar all I can say is to lesson the frustrations your mind has by doing what you can do locally. My mind has the same frustrations and I am Thankful I have a couple excellent guys helping me, or they would be worse.

Yes the sport is changing and so are we.

PKC hunted over a thousand during their last World Hunt, UKC had over 600 at their zones and something like 6000 tried to get their through the RQE's. I doubt either one could stand much more participation.

Your missing a major point. For competition coon hunts centrally located is not centrally located by geography it's by coon hunter population. Take it from someone who makes his living selling to coonhunters. There are WAY more hunters north and east then there are south and west.
