3yo walker rescue

My wife just brought home a 3yo walker from the local shelter. They said there that she was started hunting. I'm new to coon hunting and want to get into it. Any advice on what to do with her? Thanks

Give her time to get used to you, work with her at home (lead, load and come when you call her). When you get the homework done, put her in the woods and hunt her.

Take the dog hunting and see what happens some have it and some don't just make sure you do your part the rest is left up to the dog

Thanks for resueing one. I hope it works out well for you.
I've signed up to volunteer at the local shelter. I've thought about somehow taking the stray hounds and see if they had any hunt in them. If so, maybe they could be given to someone wanting a hunting dog.

Should I put her on a caged coon first?

If you do don't force it on her remember dogs like to chase so drag it away from her let her get fired up. Good luck!!

As someone else wrote, just take her to the woods at first. Hunting is bred into many dogs and she just may be a self starter. Give her time to get used to being in the woods, at night even. Turn her lose at streams that cross the road and walk her into the woods a little ways. It's going to take several trip to get her used to being in the woods at night and for her hunting instincts to come alive.
