Ouch!

Well, after all these years of Mich. not letting us Indiana boys buy a license until Nov 8th, we can now get legal on Mich's opening day, Oct1. They really hammer us on the cost but just bought my license, fur takers permit and I'm ready for opening night. Can't wait.
How many coons will it take to get back my $166?

You can still sell a coon ? Its been many years since I've carried one out unless i wanted to show it to a little pup . They did away with the " fur bearers " license here a long time ago.

$252.50 for fur harvestor out of state in Kansas and that's totally ridiculous. I may not hear or see another hound while hunting for weeks. I had a big farmer ask me yesterday if I would please bring my hounds up and thin the coon. It will be season before I pack a firearm.

I'm buying my MI license today. So $2 average makes it 83 coons to break even on the license. So figure another $20 per night in fuel and vehicle expense. So another 10 coons a night just to break even!!

20 nights to kill 283 coon . I don't have the dog power or will power to do it.

Don't think it's going to be a profitable venture so will settle for a few good trips up north and treeing a few.

Indiana

Always enjoyed my time in Indiana when I was stationed at Camp Atterbury. Indiana takes care of its residents, no license required for Deer and Turkey if u own property. Enjoyed best of both worlds when there being in military I could buy resident license and because I was still a legal resident of Michigan could get resident license there too.

I'm glad too see Michigan change the Non-Resident restrictions on season dates. Each state is different and IMO it all comes down to money for the DNR's.

9 days and counting

Resident license here costs $20.90 That lets you hunt all kinds of small game, 2 week rifle deer season for bucks, spring and fall turkey.

Resident furtaker license is also $20.90

Everything else needs a separate tag. Bear $16.90, archery $16.90, resident antlerless $6.90, bobcat permit $6.90, fisher permit $6.90, muzzleloader tag $11.90, etc.

Nonresident license is $101.90. Nonresident furtakers is $81.90. Nonresident 7 day small game license is $31.90

Jim,

The early start here doesn't mean you can even sell the coons. Most buyers up here don't want to buy anything from the first 3 weeks. I typically don't start harvesting them until November 1st. Well, unless I am doing damage control or training a pup.

So you may need to harvest a couple of extra dozen possums and skunks.lol

Anyway, it should at least be fun.

Larry, it's been a few years since I skun a coon or carried a rifle. If the other guys wanna carry a rifle and shoot them coons, that's fine wth me. But I don't need them and my dog probably dont neither.

Are you gonna be up to Maple this Saturday? I think I'm meeting Brott up there for the double header. Hope to see yah.

I made cks out to the Treasurer for almost almost $114. That's for 3 adult licenses and 3 doe tags, 2 furbearer licenses, an archery license, 2 bobcat tags, 2 fisher tags and a bear tag. Got 2 DMAP tags, but that was on computer with game commission, think they were around $10. We call them save a doe tags.
We're in PA, too; furtaker is $20.90 not $20.
