These pups should be very HARD hunting dogs that are SMART tree dogs. Both parents are very hard hunting dogs that have the meat when they are treed. If your looking for a pup close to medium range hunter these pups are not for you. They will be long range and never look back. Should get down the holler in a hurry!

Depends how far back! LOL
Probably the simplest and shortest answer is Paul Vaughn and his brother Tim had a female called De Youngs Lucky that they named Mad Dog Mo Blue Lucky and she was out of some old Lavin and Elbert Vaughn Warrior dogs. She was bred to several studs that produced super great young dogs that were winning in the hunts.
She was bred to haze hill Jim who was out of Dave dean's original hammer dog this produced Hughes Mad Dog Smokin who was the 1978 BBOA National King of Hunt.
At the same time they had bred and raised GrNite Mad Dog Gambler witch is in Hammer X ped on his mother side.
There was also Gr Nite Mad Dog Jake. GrNite Mad Dog Six Pack and these males w er re line bred on Paul and Tim mad Dog females.After that there were mad Dog bred females and males that were crossed out on smokey river dogs and also jet bred dogs.
With out going into detailed peds Paul and Tim bred their own line of dogs (mad dog) over the last 50 years.
I teamed up with them in the late 70s as well as guys like Guy Dehenne, Daryl Hughes, Rick Tomter, Roy Wise and etc. The list of guys breeding this line grew to a point that we could all line breed and never inbreed.
