I m thinking about hauling a hound to Bluetick days.Ive never hauled a hound to an overnight hunt let alone a 3 day hunt . It's an 10 hour drive then of course keeping the hound for 4 or 5 days all together for the trip . I have a cabin at John Kyle park . This dog has never been chained up . I'd appreciate any tips or advice on how to travel and keep a hound on a long trip like this .Thx

No secret way and all dogs Haul different. Try to just keep air flow to box and get your dog out every time you stop and walk it. Best of luck and hope to meet you there

Like Eddie said as your traveling every time you stop get your hound out and walk him around 5 to 10 minutes then offer him some water before you stick him back in the box. Don't forget a feed and water bowl, feed, tie out chain and stake and your hammer to drive it in the ground. The picture of Bo is the inside of one of the Cabins at John Kyle Park. You made a good choice. Close to the hunt but back in the woods on the lake away from everything. Much better than a motel in my opinion. No, I don't let Bo sleep in the other bed, but I do let him sleep on a pad by my bed. When you come in from hunting he will be cleaned out and no danger of going to bathroom in the cabin but when they stir around get up and take them out and let them do their business. If your not comfortable with your hound in the cabin with you let him sleep in the dog box. Keep it locked. During the day I leave Bo out on the chain in the shade with plenty water as long as I'm around but if I go somewhere he goes with me. Good luck and hope to see you there. I haul five to six hounds to the Navajo Reservation to lion hunt 5-6 times a year. It is a 12 hour drive and temperatures can be pretty cold. I let them trot around the house and unload before putting them in the box. I drive for about three hours and jump them out in a cotton field between Post and Lubbock and road them for about a quarter of a mile. Load them back up and then go another three or four hours before jumping them out between Ft. Sumner, NM and Santa Rosa, NM. I road them there for a quarter of a mile or so and then they have to tough it out the remainder of the trip. When I arrive at my destination, I road them again before feeding them. I keep a lot of hay in the box for comfort and warmth.
I hunt them as many as 7-10 days in a row and they have to live in the box for the entire hunt. As long as they are tired and they usually are, there is no problem. I put a tarp over the box to help reduce wind and rain or snow. If one barks, it helps reduce noise as I stay at a motel.
