Turkey Season is in down here and we shutdown during that time in most of the big woods. I have one honey hole to hunt that has more coon than an old dog needs so I just take some pups this time of year. Couple nights ago did take on female in heat with a pup and we walked up to the first feeder and two possum ran off it. What the heck we turned out and they ran and treed a coon off that feeder. Treed two more off another feeder and then we cut and treed another one. Seen several sitting up and saw a total of 4 possums and I think like 8 or 9 coon.

The pups I hunt generally run before they tree like they did many years ago. I have a young one here now that is out performing some pretty good old dogs on the track. He just isn't sure about the treeing yet. I am not about leashing him up and dragging him into a tree that another dog is treeing on either. Going to be several lonely nights of just me and him once Turkey season gets out.

When your hunting an independent pup they can be frustration and make you rethink how to train one. The rewards are many once they decide to look up and lock up on a tree. If they don't I have plenty of deer and hog hunters that would love to get them. The good news is they don't drag me to many slick trees. lol

Did see something I never saw before. On the way out we stopped by a tree we had treed in about an hour earlier and wanted to see if the coon had come down. We got to the big oak and we saw a rat in the tree and when we put the lights on it, the rat ran up and into the coon then fell out of the tree. I have seen rats in trees before but never scared one into running into the coon. lol

Son is coming down from Knoxville for the week and we are going to do some fishing and try to get him a Turkey later in the week.

Take care and catch you later.

I hope your conditions for turkey season is a little better than ours cold windy and raining we have had some good luck BUT not as god as we were hoping for the clients and guides have had them talking real good just not where the guides need them to be. as far as coons goes I think we have 3 to 1 possums to coons NEVER have I seen so many possums on the farm.
Again good luck.
