I had a male out of Nell that was as fast as a hound can get, he didn't catch every hard running coon he ran but he would and did a lot of coon that thought they could out run him.

Hello Banjo....Gaither's Blue Nell ('PR' Blue Rinny X 'PR' Chalk Eye Blue Judy). Just to expand a bit on what Jim & Voyd contributed. Rinny was from Longs Blue Fowler X Boneys Blue Rips Missie. Ole Fowler went on back to some Galoway hounds owned by Jim Potts of Olney, Texas. Missie was well bred too, being sired by Al Barnett's Rip Jr. and her dam went back to Webbers Blue Buster (all well regarded dogs down around the Red River between TX and OK). Chalk Eye Blue Judy was the old Gaither bloodline, she doubling up on Oklahoma Blue Rock, a littermate to Vaughn's Bawler.

Nell was a speed demon herself, like Voyd indicated she passed it along to her offspring. Bob Gaither didn't like his hounds to take a backseat to any other breed on track and bred his hounds that way. They were mostly outstanding track dogs, some with speed enough to catch coon on the ground. Although some would probably not win a foot race, they didn't potter, and would likely get to the tree first. Almost all were all night tree dogs. Couldn't help myself, just had to brag on ole Nell....a little!

Voyd and Guy, Thank you for your replies. I got a few dogs from Mr Gaither years ago, and the first one was out of old Nell. I won a RQE with her at 11 months old. I just couldn't remember what she was out of. He bred another female to a hound called McLemore's Pepper but I can not remember the females name. It was a good cross as well.

Hey Voyd....yes ole Blondie was out of Nell and sired by CH GRNTCH Fleetwood's True Boy II (son of S.R. Diamond Jim). Blondie's littermate, Gaither's Tina, was the one who carried on the line primarily for me. She was bred to Bigcreek Jim and a dog called Texas Stricker ( a son of GRCH GRNTCH True Boy III), producing several better than average coon dogs. I looked at many a coon eye with those old Gaither dogs.

Blondie was out of true boy and nell which was bred to gaithers sam that produced heavenly blue bonnet. John Vanderbeck really loved bonnet. Bonnet was later bred to rankins lead that produced most of my line of dogs today.

Hello Richard.....John V. sure had a good one from the Sam x Blondie cross; and there were others. Buck Timon's Lilly and Scout, Jackie Haywood's Jack, my Babe and Tom, James Evans Goldie.

A little story behind James Evans Goldie (Ormiston's Goldie): When Blondie got run over, going home that night James Evans said, "Guy you can take Goldie and breed her to anything you want." I took her up to Bob Gaither's and bred her to her uncle, a dog named Buster ( a littermate to Blondie). Got some good ones there too, like Gatling's Buster; and he was a top sire, though used very little. Always appreciated James Evans kindness over that deal!

Later James took Goldie and bred her to Bigcreek Jim, and got some good ones for himself, James Petty and Wallace Steelman.
