Controlled burns

Well looks like 2000 acres will be burned in mcdowell . Every time we turn around another burn . This is gonna be from singecat ridge to Curtis creek. Nothing makes a challenge for running hounds like a burn. Hey this is also some nice ground for turkey hunting also if they hurry they can get it done before season opens Saturday lol. They claim this helps all I see grow back is tangled greenbrier I would personally rather see a good clear cut at least that will thin out old growth and allow for young better producing mast trees to flourish and even put the loggers to work.

They've been burning the croatan too for the past few weeks. I'm glad they do. It kills ticks, some snakes and makes it easier to get around. Around here where ever they burn there's a swamp that will stop it.

No swamps here yeah you will be able to get around for 1 year then it will be thicker and nastier than ever before. I have always heard about the good they do but I can never seem to find anything they help they say everything comes back green but anyone can see that the small stuff on the floor will eventually be smothered out from the canopy of the old growth. Seems to me clear cuts or select cuts would be way more productive they are full of berries in the summer and the young timber would yield better mast crops. I'm no biologist just a guy that spends a lot of time in the woods and see which environments yield more wildlife. I just think it's sad they think the best way to manage this district is a fire and most of this stems from looney liberal worried about a plant called mountain golden heather that needs fire to replenish if it takes that much work to keep it going it's not worth it, why not use the man hours and money to bring chestnut trees back to the mountains they used to be here and benefitted all forms of wildlife and a blight killed them but they seem all but forgotten. Okay I'm done with my rant!!!!
