New rule?????

The last three hunts I have been to each time we got down to where we had roughly 20 minutes left to burn...one guy would call a little pow-wow and the cast decided {voted} to "walk the time out".....I did not go along with this and explained that this was cheating. At least I thought it was...but it seems that everyone does it now. I actually had guys look at me like I was nuts. Had several state that they always do this and was told by several that "whats the problem??? As long as we all agree, who cares???"
When I explained that first off, you have to hunt the full two hours. I got those back and forth looks like "what are you talking about, hunt the full two hours???" Secondly, maybe everyone in this cast does agree to do it, you are still cheating the rest of the cast in the hunt that did follow the rules and hunt the full time. I don't know if they were playing dumb, but they all just did not get that..."how are we cheating the other casts??? They aint here!!"
Is this really as common as it appears???? When we got back to the clubs these geniuses started discussing how ridiculous it was for "that guy" {me} to not go along with it!!! "We been doing that for years," the others at the club would say. I was even called a few less than stellar names by some of them.
Am I the one that is wrong and don't get it??? Is there a new rule I don't know about??? This almost sounds like something that could go on in another KC, kinda like when you win but don't even have to tree a coon. No coons, don't hunt the full time...still win???? Go figure. I mean, if you cant hunt the 2 hours just stay home.

Why point the finger at somebody else seems like its going on in UKC?
Me personally as long as I have a mathematical chance to get back into we will cut loose if there are 3 minutes to go but if I'm beat I will withdraw so we can go home.

I agree with you on hunting the full 2 hours.
I don't comp hunt allot but I've lost and won cast in the last 10 minutes.
That's just the way it works but that's part of the fun of it to me.
You never know what a dog Will do and the whole game can change in a blink.
A dog quitting a track our pulling up short on a slick can mean a cast win or hunt win for dogs your no hunting with for sure.

The rules do not allow walking off 20 minutes. When a cast agrees to that, it is no different than a cast agreeing to plus possums. If everyone agrees, what does it hurt?
If this was reported to the MOH, any honest MOH would disqualify that cast.

Some of these guys ether don't understand the concept of cheating the other casts or they don't care, its also a reason I hate to withdraw especially if were down to two dogs, I've been asked to withdraw and I've been asked to delay calling my dog when I have little Chance of winning

I wonder how the outcome would of been in the UKC World Hunt if the last 20 to 30 minutes of the clock was run out,a set of rules is set fourth to be that, rules.

So some folks think if you tree 3 coons in the first hour and have 675 points, you can lead your dog around the woods for the next hour?

Jake just won the truck in Lula Mississippi in the last minute of the hunt. Go read the play by play. I'm not saying it's not done in either registry but I'd be casting my dog out there. I'd only withdraw if there was no chance of winning.

Even if a dog is leading a cast by 1000 pts. who is to say that it wouldn't get itself scratch in the last minute or take minus points that would affect where it places in the hunt against other casts. I have been on casts that have walked out the last few minutes but did not agree or like doing it. Usually it's been on a competive cast and I've been in the running or leading until the end.

Thanks for all the posts guys, I knew better, but when it happens too often I was starting to think it was me!!!! It's one thing to try and pull a fast one, but when you try it and get called out for it and then look at the man like he has two heads...sad that it can come to this.
I will ask them about plus points for possums too next time!!!

I've never heard of anyone walking out 20 mins. I have heard of guys walking out the last 15 mins.

I think they get that because it use to say something about keeping a dog on leash walking from hunting spot to hunt spot IF you used 15 mins to get to the new ground.

Exactly. It ain't over til it's over ! Many ways to get minused. Heck your dog could quit a coon come in to a possum tree and be AWARDED circle points and win the cast.

Seriously in 20 minutes that could possibly be 2-3 slick trees. That could take your plus score to minus in a hurry. I'd be upset with everyone at the club for treating me that way. I most likely wouldn't support the club anymore. Even if it meant me driving an hour to a different club.

Just wondering if you had some delays like having to wait and hour to regroup the cast or whatever and by hunting the last Twenty minutes means there is no way you could make it back for the deadline what would you do if you were the cast winner with a good score or if we're a member of the cast but didn't win ?

you better cut that 30 min walk down to 8 because it starts when you strike! and you cant hear dogs lol don't stop or start strike time when you feel its convenient. you all take minus. than you can stop time! call interference because your dogs went where no man has walked!!lol

Before I answer the rest of this post, I have to ask...what exactly did the MOH scratch this entire cast for???? It sounds like maybe 10 minutes went by without a dog being heard and the strike points were not minused.

I will tell you that dogs that trail out of hearing is not a reason to call time out...only if they trailed away in different directions.

Also, you might already know this but your post seems to denote that you can call time out to find dogs and keep your points and score them when you find the dogs...time out called when dogs are trailing means you minus the points.

I must not be understanding what you are saying here...the 8 minutes does not start when you strike your dog. The 8 minutes starts when the last bark was heard. If the track is getting bad and dogs are slowing way down the judge should start noting the time when they last barked. Dogs could have been running the track for over an hour but it gets bad and they are shutting up. The last dog barked 7 minutes and 59 seconds ago and you hear a bark, that starts it all over again.
The way this post reads dogs have 8 minutes to what??? tree a coon??? From the time the first one is struck??? No, one of them has to bark once within 8 minutes or the track is minused.
One other thing to remember, time out or interference {last time I checked this word doesn't appear in the rules}...neither one excuses the fact that if dogs were trailing when time out called the points have to be minused.

This was not the case in my cast, we had plenty of time. The rest of your question is simple, if getting in 2 hours of hunt time means the cast cannot possibly make it back to the club BEFORE deadline then you didn't win. The cast is scratched for going beyond the deadline. Tough break but it has to end sometime.
