Secret in life I wish I would have learned earlier.

As we go through life we accomplish things. Some are good and some we probably wish we didn't accomplish. Looking back I can see that when I was younger I wasn't happy with small accomplishments and always had my sights set on the big one. Well the big one never really happened so I was just left with dreams. Lots of good dreams but none the less just dreams. As I enter the Golden Years of life I look at smaller accomplishments, ones simple to accomplish but ones that still take work dedication. I have found that the small accomplishments when achieved build a foundation of happiness, trust and faith with those that help achieve the accomplishment. Now these accomplishments happen in every aspect of life but for us Coon Hunters I think the ones involving Friends and our dogs are special.

I had a small accomplishment in my life last night that was huge in the life of a couple friends.

Corey who is a friend, fellow coon hunter and works with me in the store is engaged to a special young lady named Kelcey. She is special for many reasons and loves to coon hunt with us. Monday night we were out in the rain wind and cold trying to get Kelcey ready for a weeknight $kc hunt about 60 miles from here.
Well last night she handled a dog in her first hunt and won the cast. A small accomplishment to many but hearing the joy in her voice last night and being able to share with someone a first in their life is special. Then again Kelcey is special and I hope she has many more hunts.
One Small Accomplishment at a time.

We were all like that at some point. Thinking life is about accomplishing the biggest of out dreams. Life is built on the small moments. I enjoyed all the hunts I won and most of the ones I lost but now they really do not mean anything to me and I wish I would have been out pleasure hunting with friends all those nights or better yet spending time with my family. I grew up poorer then poor, we were lucky if we had lights and water at the same time. My parent are gone and left me with 2 little sisters to take care of with no family or help when I was 16. I quite school in the 9th grade and went to work. I raised them and now they work for me. Life is about those small things that we take and build on. Cherished moments that might not mean much at the time but they are what build who we are. Growing up like that taught me not to take the little things for granted.

When you get older, you realize that there are no "little" wins.

I really enjoyed both of the posts you guys made. I believe that both of you have achieved something far greater than either of you would take credit for! I am very proud that we (coonhunters) have men like you in our sport. I can say for sure that I will support and recommend both of you to all my friends. Dave

Your post touched me deeply, as did Bruces. I have accomplished many small and a few larger things in life, including 52 years with a wonderful coon hunters widow (that's what she calls herself even tho I don't hunt as much anymore). What you did as a very young man for your sisters puts you a setp above the best of men. God bless you Sir.

Mr. Bruce you are correct

Along those same lines there are things in my life I thought would bring great joy if I acomplished some of my goals BUT was I SUPRISED to find out the accomplishments were way down the line as to what I learned along the way. Winning 2 over all WORLD Show championships and a World Champion breed winner hunting dog has ment verry little in my life compared to what I learned along the way those acomplishments have been cussed and discussed and not even mentioned by some of my friends that I hunt with ( maybe they ar not friends come to think about it now) BUT with that said the MANY people I met along the way is countless and the real meaning of acomplishing a tast was brought to light in a big way. YOU NEVER WALK DOWN LIFE'S ROAD ALONE friends is what makes the jurney worth it all. I think GOD often for my friends and seldom think of my acomplishments.

Bruce and Joey, Your comments realy hit home right now. Yesterday We kept our 18 month old Granddaughter that has some heart problems. My wife run to the Post Office and left her here with me. I was chastising myself for failing to reach some big goals I had set for myself. I walked out the back door with her and sat down on the 3rd step looking out over the river. I was going to let her sit on the top step but no, She took off down the steps to where I was, sat down beside me and assumed the same pose as me looking out over the river. I told my wife that I had lost a little motivation to achieve some things that did't seem quite as important as the grandkids right now. I quess it's old age. Little things are bigger than ever.
