Anybody Ever Do This ??

Anybody ever take your Gr. Nt. Ch. female of whatever breed and breed her to a different breed of coonhound? And if so, how did that work out for you ?

I had a walker male a few years ago that was breed to 2 different English females. Not going to say ever pup in the litter turned out. However both litters had a gr nite out of each one. To be honest I liked it because the one I keep was a coontreerer with yard dog type sence. He was athletic hunted hard fast and would get deep. I could call him off a tree across a river looking at a coon. I did not even need a leash to hunt him. He's still living and is about 10 and still winning cast when they enter him. Matter of fact I started 2 off one of the crosses and 1 off the other. All of them would tree a coon. It seems like the hardest thing to get is track and the right amount of independence with alot of drive. It's been a long time since I've had a pup that didn't have the genetics to tree coons.

And yes one of those females was a granite English female. Matter of fact I think she was off the first all grand English litter. I just will say this. The hardest thing is to get people that will hunt those pups off any cross and be patient with them.

Well let me refraze that. I single registered the one I had. A buddy of mine keeped 2 he single registerd and made a granite out of one. The the one I keeped would tree a coon at a young age but started turning the crank about 17 months. I had some pleasure hunters get a female. She was making a nice dog and they lost her one night. To be honest I never had hot breed hot to cold and get warm outcrossing within the breed. It worked better for me cross breeding.
