I am sure there are alot of folks that can give you all kinds of details on these dogs. I could sit here and type for hrs on Rambo II.
And have started several paragraphs and backed up and deleted in this post.
Description of Rambo II: DRIVE, HEART, TOUGH, DOMINATE PRESSURE TREE DOG, REPRODUCER LOOKS TO SPARE, BUST A HOLE IN THE DARK DOGS, NO REVERSE.
Don't have papers in front of me, but pretty sure was a product of Rambo which out of Utchmans Ranger II OR III and a Perrymans female, which I am sure was Vaughn. I think the original Rambo dog was a big game hound.
I owned a dog directly out of Rambo II, I bought him from Lonnie Smile and Jim Smalling more so Mr. Smile. I drove 20 hrs to get him and got to see Rambo II and Broad Axe Blue Max in person and hunt, pretty sure Rambo II lost part of an ear that night, both dogs were still treeing thou. Had I been 1 hr later the pup would have been sold to Richard Casey, and it would have been titled I am sure, he was a very nice dog but work took me out of the country and out of comp hunting.
The pup I got out of Rambo II reproduced better than himself and I still have one female alive out of that dog which is crossed up with Bragg and Old Cameron blood (Clearwater and Sabastin).
She is the mother to every dog I have now except one, my stud now. One thing I regret the most is not breeding him to more gyps, but I don't advertise a stud, I have not competition hunted for various reasons, mostly work related and family now. But think I am producing dogs that are more than capable of excelling in this department or competing hunts or big shows.
When this dog died I bought a pup from Jerry Sitlow out of Screwy Lewie which was a half brother to the pup I bought from Mr. Smile. The dog out of Lewie is a reproducer as well, I have bred him very little. I have 3 dogs out of him now and have bred him to two other females and have had great reports. Most people that have pups out of him are big game hunters as well as myself. Where I live coon are thin, and hunts are quite a drive.
He is getting up in age as well. So I am looking for dogs as close to Rambo II as possible.
I had good dogs, before buying the Rambo II pup, but when crossed on the old blood and that I had I never look back, they set the bar.
One thing for sure is those dogs had no reverse, I mean blast a hole in the dark, heads up running, get tree, with the meat and hold there own.
The Addition of the Screwy Lewie pup/dog which was a half brother to the original Rambo II pup I bought had Albert in him directly out of Broad Axe Blue Max, When crossed on that I already had, I produced a litter of the the smartest, coolest, most eager to please dogs I have ever owned. I hope to have semen pulled off him before he dies or goes sterile.
What I had before the addition to the Rambo blood was track dogs, with tons of gritt, bigger dogs, what I have now are flat out pull the trigger, hair pulling, fast heads up bust a hole in the dark dogs with a head full of scene and looks to spare with big big horns.
This is getting combination is getting harder to find.
Alot of dogs have made there mark in the bluetick breed, Smokey River, Jet, Hammer, etc. But IMPO Rambo II may have been the best dog ever produced in the breed, and passed on those traits, Chief is another, Diamond Jim, Hawk, Jet 5, some of the Hammer dogs, right now the Boomer dog.
I can say this with 100% confidence every female I took to breed to an outstanding stud wasn't better than what I had, and when I told them what the female was out of, every man said she is a typical Rambo II looking female.....They all look exactly like the same dogs that Mr. Perryman has bred in the past and still breeding now.
I hope I haven't offending anyone as there are many great blues out there, and if you are reading and have semen stored out of a Rambo II dog, I would be very interested in talking to you.
I am not trying to promote my dogs, say there are better than anyone's or any breed or breed with the breed. I am simply giving an opinion with fact based hands on 15 yrs of experience dealing with this blood.
I can't figure out for the love of me why you see so little of it in ped as may dogs as he produced.
