I like this topic.
I agree with the competitive dog. I have only had the pleasure to hunt one dog that was Red that had it. I said I have. I know there are more. He was different when you took him to a hunt. He would get really wound up. He knew what we were doing. What made him be a competitor was he had the tools. Mouth , strike,Tree, could Handel pressure plus the competiveness. It takes both. Do I think a Man made loner is the same thing. No,but there are so many different opinions about what competiveness is. Somebody may say that Loner dog you just got beat bye has it. However, the next hunt he get off to hiself and trees one while the packers in the hunt tree three and he gets beat. They have to be able to do it all. Be alone when there alone. Be pushing to be in front when packed up and pull that tree with a coon in front of the pack the majority of the time. That means drop after drop consistently. Every cast is different. Got to be able to do both. Just my opinion this will be the hardest thing to breed in, or change. I agree with Shane we need more of it. Is it a trait. I am going to say no, but what the heck do I know.
