This......and sometimes they learn to grab a tree to avoid correction, especially if it's an animal that don't climb. The dog knows you like it when she trees.
One of the most common reasons an older dog {or at least older than what it is being hunted with} will do it is jealousy...are you hunting this dog with any other dogs???? Even if she has been hunted with them before or even for a period of time, they can sometimes get real jealous of another dog and start grabbing trees.
Young dogs just getting started are one thing, but I am always suspicious of a veteran doing it. There is almost always a reason, I mean, the coon cannot take the dog to an empty tree. So, either it's off game or the dog is lying.
