I think they are fairly recent and definitely pricey.

The dog sled guys swear by water baiting, I would assume peak hydration levels r more important then a snack before competing.

I water bait mine in the warmer weather but not in November. Maybe I should though.
I just ordered a box of the Prime Bars so I'll see how they work

These bars have glycerine no need to water bait, Purina has added what the mushers have known for along time !

I've used them before, after and during hunts before and the dogs seem to really enjoy them!

I think they make several different varieties of these bars, some that are supposed to be fed prior to vigorous exercise and some that are meant to be fed after vigorous exercise (I can't remember all the particulars).

All I can say is, my dogs go nuts for them

supplements are exactly that...a supplement to make up for a lack of nutrients or vitamin that a dog/person isn't getting enough of due to there strenuous exercise regime.

Diet and meal plans are more important then any supplement. Therefore if your dog needs a meal bar to perform at peak levels this would only indicate there is something missing in there regular meal plan. Jmo

I however haven't took the time to study up on dog nutrition and know very little.

There are powder supplements you can add to your dogs food, that supposedly work well.

I would also think a multivitamin would probably be something I would look at before I think about dropping dough on a power bar. Not that it's a bad product, but I would just lean towards focusing on the dogs meal plan and daily nutrition first.

" water baiting"

I have never heard this term. What does it mean? I may already be doing it, probably more so in the winter.

thanks

Waterbaiting is getting water down your dog before working it. So how do you get your dog to drink water before work? You bait it with something like dry dog food, meat broth, flavoring of some sort. I use bullion cubes, cheap and works well with my dogs. I baited a lot last summer and felt I had good results from it.

Ok thanks Jim, I thought that is what it meant, I do it more so in the winter.

I haven't tried these bars but before and after hard runs I have used high protein products, mackerel, eggs, recently I have used the Super Fuel dog powder, all of these things may help, but I think good dog food probably is the best. I like Pro Plan 30-20, mostly I mix this with Dog Chow half and half, but on the hard hunting hits I use the Pro Plan primarily, except in the summer.

I also save all bacon grease thru out the yr and use the grease on the food in the winter months.

rice bran oil is 100% pure and you use a teaspoon over their feed a day ..
i use the powder or the ground that comes in a 50lb bag you use 1 tablespoon over their feed once a day , it seems like the powder you get more for the money than the oil ..
so far it has worked better than anything i have used to give a dog a supplement and i have tried a bunch of the dog products that has been hyped up and cost a lot and never worked ..
