WI DNR Raccoon Hunting Class for Public
Our WI Department of Natural Resources has many opportunities for the public to learn about various kinds of hunting; pheasant, deer, bear, etc. They also are helping us promote coonhunting to the public through our annual Learn To Hunt Raccoons Program. The event will be October 17-18, 2015 at the Mackenzie Center in Poynette, WI.
This Learn to Hunt (LTH) program will introduce novice hunters to raccoon hunting at night using trailing hounds. Participants will learn raccoon biology and furbearer management, firearm safety, basics of hunting with hounds, rules and regulations, and fur handling and pelt preparation. Participants will hunt under the direction of an experienced mentor and dog handler. Program sponsors include: The WI DNR, and the Southwestern Wisconsin Coonhunters Association.
Please contact me for an application if you have anyone that may be interested in joining us. I can be reached at 262-903-0234. The information and application is also available at: http://dnr.wi.gov/education/outdoorskills/lth.html
Attendance is limited to maximize exposure and participation.
Get in touch if you would like to be involved. Please help spread the word! Thanks!
