Diatomaceous Earth

Anyone use this product on their dogs. Have done some reading on the benefits of this product and it says it can be used as a dietary supplement and for work and flea control. Sounds good but a lot of products can be made to sound good. Anyone have any personal experience with it?
Thanks.

I use it in dog houses and have for a few years . It only works in dry conditions but I have no fleas , it will kill any bug by drying out their exoskeleton . I've put it on dogs food before don't know if it helped anything but didn't hurt . Met a guy at a hunt that drank a spoonful in a glass of water everyday , he said he had lost 15lbs and felt better than he had in years .

I use it all the time

I use the food grade and sprinkle it on pup and their food. i sprinkle it on them about twice a month and put in their food at the same time. i have not had any fleas and pups are always fat and healthy.

Do you put it on the dogs food every day or just periodically?

I also read where it takes care of lung worms, which is what heart worms are before they move to the heart. Seems like a great product to use. Wonder why more people don't use it.

Not trying to start anything but lung worms do not have anything to do with heartworms in dogs.

They reside in the heart, lung, and arteries. Not saying this is the way to treat heart worms.

I mix a butter cup full into my dogs soaked food most days during the warm months. I feel it helps with worms and keeps the flies down because they die when the eat the dog crap! It isn't 100 percent on tape worms, but overall I think it keeps worms in check and the dogs looking healthy throughout the summer.

I have had several friends and a couple in-laws that work at a feed store, and they have all been taking it for several years now. They all same the same thing, joints feel better, feel healthier, lost weight, etc. I'm not sure if it helps, or if it is just a placebo, but they all swear by it. They did all say that when it was time to do the morning paper work, "hold on".

Make sure you get food grade. I get it at Rural King for my swimming pool and that grade which is not food grade causes cancer if you breathe the dust. Says that on the bag.

Diatoms

Diatoms are made of silica, silica is a form of glass. It works by cutting the exoskeletons and the organism dies. If its cutting the organism it has the potential to cut your dogs insides as well if you use too much.

Unless they have added a bunch of other things in for the pool grade i am not sure i would want to give anything to my dog in the food grade if the pool grade said it caused cancer and i know i would not take it myself and i would read the label on both and see the difference in the two.

Don't know about cancer

...but it will make your lungs bleed. As I said it is silica. Silicosis was the first identified industrial disease and hit the makers of gun flints working in flint mines in Europe. I believe the food grade has been cooked.

I keep dogs at 2 different places. One place I have been mixing in DE with the dog food and the other place I haven't been. Dogs at both places have had the same conventional worming medicines and have had the same dog food with the exception of the DE mixed in at one place and not the other. The dogs eating the DE mixed in are looking better for sure so starting to use it at both locations now. It might cost a little bit to mix it in with the feed but it should prove to save the money back in less dog food and the looks and health of the dogs is worth the money even if I am feeding the same amount.

Ordered it through Amazon
10# $22.88
25# $41.08
60# $69.99

They still package them in the 10# bag for the 60 #'s, just getting a better deal when we bought 6 bags. 10#'s goes a long way since you are only mixing a tablespoon per dog per day. We have a lot of dogs also so we just bought 60#'s but we aren't halfway through the first 10# bag yet.
