Astro 320 vs 220 and also T5 vs DC 50 collar questions

Chance to buy a 220 and 3 (1 needs antenna) collars locally (though this forum).

Originally I wanted to go with a 320, but right now I cant find any used ones locally so it looks like to go that route I'll be spending $600 on the 320 and a single collar (really only have 1 hound that im going to run)

SOO I guess the real question is, is the Astro 320 with 1 collar worth $400 more than a 220 with several collars? I do like the idea of getting the birds eye maps.

AND DC50 collar vs T5. Can we use the DC50 during nite hunts and ukc competition? I guess the T5 is pretty much the same as DC50 but the bark detection is disabled.

my 220 is better than my 320. I'm not sure about the 50 collar, but the T-5 will not work with the 220. it requires an Alpha or 320.

Ya I think you need like a dc 20 or 30 for the 220s.

Care to elaborate as to why the 220 is better?

From what I gather, the 320 consumes more battery life, but it has better graphics, and it acquires the signal from the collar faster, and is capable of providing the birds eye maps for an extra cost. Also, I read somewhere that the Astro 220 is only 2d and you need to hold it flat whereas the 320 is 3d and works better at any angle?

So thats all just what I've read, but im looking for input from you guys out there that have used both in the woods.

I would only buy the 220 if it comes with dc30 collars ! dc20's were designed to mount on dogs back and dc40's don't work good when a dog has its head down tracking I have owned several 320's and just don't care for them 90 percent of the time all I use is the dog page and I just can't see the yardage without my glasses on with a 320 as for the dc50 and the t5 I have no opinion

yep the collars are DC 30.

Soo do we agree that $200 for an Astro 220 and 3 DC 30 collars, (one needs antenna) is a decent price? I can pay for the other one too but if its not worth the extra money for a 320, then why waste it.

Pretty good price. Could buy it and sell on ebay. Collars go for over $100 a piece and should get $100 for 220. Or sell 2 collars and unit is paid for! I sold 1 cd30 on ebay month ago and got $120 plus they paid shipping.

$200 is an excellent price if everything works I thought you were looking at $375 before. At $200 he's giving it away. That antennas no big deal you can get one of those from Conkey for around $10 and if you ever upgrade to a 320 you can still link those DC30s up to it.

Ya I never really had a problem with the price. I just didn't want to waste time and money if the 320 was that much better. The thing is theres 3 collars but with 1 hound thats kind of over kill. I have two dogs but the other one doesnt tree **** so I guess I'll just have extra collars.

Like I told him, hey $200 gets me in the woods great then I can put more money towards other stuff like a good truck box.

I own three collars and almost never hunt more than two dogs at a time. I like to link my extra collar up and throw it on the dash to get me back to the truck when I get twisted up. You actually can set your truck location on your handheld before you go into the woods but I never bother with that If I "think" I know the area. Even in woods I know you'd be surprised how many times that collar laying on the dash has set me straight.

U know what thats a really good point. Hell back when my dog was a pup and I would cut him loose in the back yard we would end up down in the woods somewhere and everything seems way different at night.

Time or two I was probably no more than a 1/2 mile from my house and felt like i was totally lost. That dog would start barking and I'd take off after him you can get turned around pretty quickly.

Mr RLenhart

Told you right about leaving a collar back at the truck or point a of where you entered the woods and if you never have hunted the area its a life saver for sure years ago we use to leave a clicker collar back at the truck so we could track back because getting lost is no fun and if the weather turns bad its worse.

I currently own a 220, A DC30 and a DC40.

I have had 2 220's since they came out. I lost the 1st one and I have been using the 2nd one for about 5 years. The DC30 is 6 or 7 years old. I replaced the factory garmin antenna with a long range.

The DC40 I bought used. I like the 30 better than the 40.

I stuck a nameplate through the Sportdog collar light and riveted it to the DC30 collar.

I wont upgrade to a 320 until my 30 collar quits.

Still have a 220 and DC 30s. Had a DC 40 and didn't care for it. I put long range antennas on the 30s for about $6 apiece and works great. The only problem I ever had with the 30 is the charging port getting dirty. Electrical tape around it works great

Thanks for the tips seems like everything I read the DC 30s work better than the 40s so I dont think I can go wrong here for $200. I'll look into some long range antennas esp. since one of the collars needs an antenna anyway.
