So easy to laugh at a possum!!

First congratulations to everyone in the Final Cast last night and a Big Congratulations to the winner.
So easy to be critical of the dogs that got part of the possum.
So easy to be one of them.
Not So Easy being one of the final four!!
You guys done great and I don't think most know how much work goes into getting to were you were at last night. Final Four of the biggest game in town last night. The coonhound world looking at you and wondering what the outcome would be. Each wondering what it feels like being there. Then the possum and everyone says heck no not me. Well there are a few paths to greatness in this sport and there is always some type of road block in the way. Time constraints, off game, a mean dog, a coon that won't look, etc., etc.

Congratulations to the final four and each of you know how hard it is, each of you will remember the possum one way or another. Each of you are winners in the sport of coonhunting!!

Congratulations to UKC for the job they did!!

Give my dog a chance to tree a grinner in the final cast of the world hunt every year. I will take that chance that is a lot farther then most of us have ever gone!! I know most of you don't want to take that chance but I would welcome the opportunity to have that chance every year,

Congratulations to 2015 World Champion Pepper

My dog actually treed on a possum along with two others in the early round on Fri night of the UKC World Campionship in 2010. It was right at the end of the hunt also. I thought that it was pretty funny. I mean, what are you going to do but laugh about it. It was a little late for any "training". He still placed in the Top 20 which was pretty good for a possum treeing Redbone.

Think about it from a dog's perspective

Last weekend went hard and fast with competitive dogs. They probably didn't get much time off from Sunday to Wednesday. Then back at it again, runnin' and gunnin' with competitive competition. Those dogs hunted hard from Thursday until Saturday with stiff competition. Come Saturday, they were a little fried from the vibes coming from the handlers and the other dogs for 3 nights straight. I think they buckled under pressure. Easy to think the dog thinks it is just another night, but that's not true.

Easier said than done,I accomplished my life long goal this past May by makin the FINAL 4 IN THE AKC WORLD HUNT..I was totally drained both mentally and physically and my dog was in worse shape than me after it was over.A dog will let you down and make a liar out of you at the most wrong time in their life, My old bitch carried 1st and 1st on the first coon seen on that AKC hunt ,only problem she had was something else wanted her tree more than she did and after that she was finished...You dont get to the finals just by luck..I was thinkin the whole time which dog and handler would run out of gas first...Its definatlly a great feelin and an emotional experience that will make a grown man cry...I have always known that I had put in the boot time and worked very hard... but just a few months ago I had almost convinced myself and was starting to doubt myself that a ..BIG HUNT WIN..was just a grown man with a childs dream...My son explained it best to me... LUCK IS WHEN HARDWORK AND PREPARATION MEET OPPORTUNITY...DEDICATION AND PERSERVERANCE AND BELIEVING IN YOURSELF WILL CARRY YOU.... WHEN AT TIMES YOU JUST WANT TO GIVE UP...These final 4 handlers and dogs deserve their time...THEY EARNED IT...CONGRATS TO ALL AND THEIR FAMLIES....GOD IS GOOD....
