The situation that often happens with a hunting judge is that the judge and the owner of the dog that is treed are close to the tree and shining it. While the handlers of the other dogs are moving further out from the tree in an effort to try to hear their dogs. This puts the hunting judge at a huge disadvantage. I realize you can't force a handler to help shine a tree, but how far from the tree is too far for the handlers to be from the tree before you scratch them.
You don't have to be close to a tree to shine it, many times the best place is away from the tree. Tom
