Rule Question-Cast staying together

How far from the tree is an acceptable distance for the cast to be spreadout when a dog is treed alone and the tree is being shined? The situation that often happens with a hunting judge is that the judge and the owner of the dog that is treed are close to the tree and shining it. While the handlers of the other dogs are moving further out from the tree in an effort to try to hear their dogs. This puts the hunting judge at a huge disadvantage. I realize you can't force a handler to help shine a tree, but how far from the tree is too far for the handlers to be from the tree before you scratch them.

UKC doesn't like to measure things and so they refrain from putting specific distance limits on anything. So it's a judges call. If the judge feels cast members are straying too far he can order them to move in closer.

If you don't shine the tree, how are you going to vote?

You don't have to be close to a tree to shine it, many times the best place is away from the tree. Tom
