Skinnin coons

Just curious how long it takes some of you to skin one. It takes me about 10 min or so. I know a older guy that Can skin one while hes walking and carrying on a conversation.

I hadn't skinned one in about 20 years. I'm 72 years old with arthritis in both hands. Last week I skinned one. I think it took about two hours and forty seven minutes.LOL

My friend wanted a hide to play with his pups. I think they were already trained before I got the hide off of that coon.

I haven't skinned a coon in several years.

Used to skin them in about five minutes.

I've hunted 30 years and skinned 2 . The fur house where I used to sell preferred them whole. Haven't sold one in about 15 years . Hardly ever kill one except when
starting pups

I read your post on off topics, most of these guys aren't taking the time to check these coon for round worms, if u would cut that part out of your skinning and maybe some other things your checking for, u could be the fastest

I actually posted that in jest...it does take me considerably more time but there is a for real reason...first off, I kill very few coons. We don't have the population we once had in this area, so if I kill one it is to mount. I do taxidermy as a hobby and it's a whole different ballgame when you cant cut thru the hide and have to be extra careful to turn the ears, skin down to the last joint of each toe, etc.

Yeah, I have skinned them and seen these weird worms just under the skin on their back feet...I asked a veterinarian friend of mine and he said it was a "migration" of round worms. Whenever I get them to relocate to the woods behind my house I always worm them and they always unload a metric $hit ton of round worms...I thought they were just bad around here but I guess they are everywhere. It has to be hard on them during the dead of winter.

Am I the only one that is having a hard time believing someone can skin a coon while they are walking?

Todd, you're not the only one. If I skinned a coon while walking, I would be somewhere in the middle of Kentucky when I finished. I live in south Louisiana.

I've bought hides for a long time . But have since quit , year before last . Belive me when I tell you . I would just as soon skin them myself . The key and most people don't follow . IS TO USE A SHARP KNIFE !!!

How do you strip the tail and skin out eyes and ears while you're walking? I mean something small and light like a rabbit I'm sure I could do but a coon? I would love to see the video. Well worth making a video Blue2011 !
