If he's loud enough he may be VERY hard to beat in thin coon.

In the yard put him on a long rope, let him wander, hit the tone, and pull on the rope, don't call or say a word. You want the one to be the command. As you hold the tone pull him to you. Give him a treat and let him up when he comes in. Then ignore 5 mins later tone him again, pull on the rope. Do this 10 to 15 minutes a day, for a week. By the end of the week he should come automatically with the tone, and no pulls on the rope. Once he knows the command, cut him in the woods, in thin coon where he likely is able to get deep with out striking a track. When he is as deep as you like, hit the tone. If he doesn't turn around, which he pry won't, Nick him on 2, hit the tone, Nick him on 4 hit the tone, Nick him on 6 hit the tone, and continue to climb on the stimulation, alternating with the tone. Eventually he will turn and come in. Give him a treat and a pat on the head when he comes in, and repeat the process.

After a few heavy dioceses in the woods, you should see the dog given the tone more respect, and come in when toned.

You can also do the same process with verbal or whistle commands.
