Thank you very much for the reply but this question was on the registration forum Russel booted it over here. I have to say after the Tailgate Talk thread a while back that Corry started wanting to know how to get this HTX thing rolling better I'm not real impressed with UKC's efforts on that front. If I'd asked who won a slam event or something I'd have gotten an answer allot quicker than I have for my simple question. They might as well put that program to rest. My intentions were to encourage my own club to start holding HTX hunts again after finishing my dog but after putting hundreds of miles on my truck getting to my three hunts I can see UKC doesn't even place the same importance on that title as other obviously more lucrative programs. So why should anybody else?. IMO
There's some tailgate talk for em!

RLenhart I agree, UKC put the HTX hunts out there and wauted us to hunt in them and know they barely recognize them. Some one should talk to UKC about this. Pat

Since there is no competition, HTX is only a certificate. A title is earned competing against others.

I think HTX has a very limited audience, of which the majority has already been tapped.

I have nothing against HTX hunts, & wish more power to anyone who enjoys them. I personally have no interest in them nor do I place any extra merit towards a dog receiving a certificate for something it is born & bred to do.

You want a title that is recognized as a title? There are UKC Nite Hunt events in your part of Pa every weekend for the next 6 weeks and you don't have to drive hundreds of miles to get to them. Sure, you may have to beat a few other dogs, maybe even another cast or two but the NtCh title is easier to achieve today than ever in the history of this sport. Really, if your dog is worth feeding, you should have it titled by the end of June assuming it isn't already Granded. If it is, them move on to the next pup.
Bottom line, you want recognition, you gotta beat somebody.

i think there a great idea. i love the night hunts but htx shows it can do it alone. lot of dogs win in night hunts that cant tree own coon.. not tryin to start arguement just saying. an ukc sends you a new entry card an a certificate just like you get for nite ch or grnite ch.. so it is recognized..

I agree there are night champion dogs out there that cannot tree their own coon within the allotted time if hunting wild or thin coons. The HTX hunts separate the me too dogs from coon dogs. They also take the slick handlers out of the equation and that does make a difference in determining the capability of the dog.

HTx doesn't mean coondog. I have seen some dogs get the title that do a terrible sloppy job of doing it. Yes it says that they will tree a coon but it doesn't mean they are good at it.

LMAO this thread got started because I got mad about my question getting moved without a simple answer (Which was probably a little cranky of me). What will probably surprise everybody that commented is I actually agree with YOU. I could probably get my house dog an HTX title if he was aloud to participate. The only reason I had asked about the E'card is because I was asked that question and said I don't know I'll find out. I really did mean it when I said it maybe should be put to rest. Less & less clubs are participating and it really doesn't mean anything to most people that your dog has it. IMO

Same could be said about a lot of Nt.Ch & Gr.Nt.Ch out there too. Even PKC titled dogs. JMO.

HTX allows one fault and you can still pass. You can tree a possum and still pass or tree a slick and still pass but they treed a coon so that makes them a coondog. Lol I think they are a good thing. anything that gets someone out enjoying their hounds is good but I don't get people thinking HTX means coondog. Sorry to the man that started this thread. I just read a comment and started typing.

At least htx means they treed a coon by themselves. Or supposed to have anyway. About 20 years ago I bought a night champion with one win towards grand. I put 3 more wins on him and hunted him hard for 6-7 months.this dog was lucky to tree a coon a week by himself. I sold this dog cheap his new owner won a couple major ukc hunts with the dog and made pkc gold champion . He was bred to several females and a LOT of people have him in their pedigree. Some people are line breeding from him . Lol. If you think any kind of a title automatically means they are a good coon dog that you could tolerate you'd be wrong

I agree with that 100 percent. You can tree one coon and have one fault and still pass. You don't have to tree 2 if you have one fault.

HTX

These hunts are ok,if the rules are followed, I've got a couple with the HTX degree. and have inspected other dogs, both passed and failed some.
This program I think is good for those who are starting out with coonhunting and maybe their first dog, keeps em interested and its also good for the older folks that might not be able to keep up on a night hunt, I inspected a dog for a fellow who is in his mid 70ths, dog struck ran & treed, couldn't find the coon in the Hemlock, still had 20 minutes left to hunt, re cut the dog and he struck & treed again, walked in and hunt time was up, but you still score the tree as he treed in hunt time, I saw the coon right off,but didn't say anything as I wanted this older guy to find it,and he did and man was he excited, was well worth letting him find it, I told him it was a possum, just messing with him and having a good time . fellow didn't walk real fast and had his walking stick--this is what the HTX hunts are for in my mind, I never trust any title I try to at lease hunt or get some trusted references on all titled dogs
