Make no mistake, HSUS and PETA are resolve in their mission to ban or outlaw hunting, and hunting with hounds is front and center in their sight picture.
These organizations generate hundreds of millions of dollars each year, and they have full time staff who's job it is to work as hard as they can to accomplish their agenda. They use the emotions of mini-van driving, suburban soccer moms to pay for their efforts.
Today, these groups are almost 50% successful in their attacks, and with deep pockets, each time they are defeated they vow to regroup and bring the attack again soon. Don't let anyone fool you, they are full time businesses. They have two jobs, raise money, and attack. As long as they have the ability to raise money, they will continue to attack.
Today, the hound hunting world is "exposed". These groups of "animal welfare" warriors have figured out that we are unorganized, fragmented, and they truly believe we are small in number and unprotected. Mark my words, and in reality they are not my words, but theirs.....they are coming after hunting with hounds.
For the past few years, the assault was on breeding. By taking the many federal, state, and local laws and ordinances on breeding dogs that outlaw "puppy mills" and pressing for changes in those laws that make it darn near impossible to raise a litter of pups. Having a small amount of success we are seeing a change in direction, and they are now working on the multitude of tethering legislation across the country.
Folks, if you don't think that our heritage of hunting with hounds/dogs is not under attack across the country by making it more difficult to purchase a pup, or to house your dog. The hope is that at least part of us will throw in the towel, reducing our numbers even more, and the eventuality is that we will be defeated.
The only true way to combat this silent, flanking attack is to organize, and to present ourselves as a strong front. Joining the NHTDA either by association with an affiliate club, or by individual membership is how we gather strength.
Thanks to all of the organizations and individuals that have already joined, and we look forward to discussions with other organizations and individuals.
Our time is coming.....
