HTX Events

I got a kid that wants to try her hand at the HTX hunts with this pup I'm hunting now so I figure that's a good way to get her feet wet in terms of hunting under a judge and rules. So I go to the schedule and there is nothing listed for Indiana or Michigan. I doubt I would drive 100 miles for anything today and the closest is about 200. Oh well.

HTX HUNTS (CLUBS)

If you belong to any clubs, try to get them started. If you don't belong to a club, contact the local clubs that you hunt at and ask if they are planning on sceduling any htx hunts in the near future, the local clubs might be waiting on someone wanting to participate before scheduling any.

Being a handler on a HTX doesn't really involve much. Its more about the dog and the dog either does the job or he doesn't. The judge may ask if the dog is struck or treed, but thats about it.

If you have a young hunter with an eye towards competition, I'd suggest having some nonlicensed club hunts, per UKC or whatever set of rules you want. Our club is having some and getting several young guys/beginners coming and learning the rules, etc.
