I need YOU to protect your sport!

Ok hound owners, it’s time for you to step up. I am trying my hardest to fight this tethering bill in PA that WILL AFFECT YOU DIRECTLY, but I can’t do it by myself. I’m going to be speaking with the sponsor of this bill who’s willing to listen, and apparently is a hunter himself. You know what would help? If some of you would call him and show I’m not just blowing smoke, and that hound owners are taking this seriously. I have to say I’m pretty disappointed in the response to this one.

I can talk all day long to this Senator, but me being an out-of-state interest doesn’t hold nearly as much water as hearing from hound owners. If you want to protect your sport, don’t stand by and let it be taken from you. Call Sen Alloway’s office today!

Here's more info on PA Senate Bill 373 that will effectively end all tethering:

I just called the Chambersburg office and got the response I expected. I was told It's not us they're after and for the most part I actually do believe that but I told them some of the wording of the bill does concern me and explained to them exactly how my dogs are kept at home and at events. They assured me as long as I am taking care of my dogs, keeping them fed and watered and not letting them get tangled "I don't have anything to worry about". Bottom line if we want to cushion the wording of that bill I think It is best if we all bombard them with calls voicing our concerns "politely" and I think they probably will work with us. We really can't just set on our hands thinking somebody else is speaking for us "like I admittedly was doing" S Chisnell is right everybody needs to pick up the phone and at least make that easy phone call to help do your part.

They can assure you you have nothing to worry about all they want, but the fact is the way the bill is currently written, NO TETHERING unless it's for a temporary task and all the other requirements are met. So, no housing dogs on tethers PERIOD. Not to mention the shelter requirements. They can tell you they aren't after hunters, but if you are in violation of how it's written, they can go after you at any time. If their concern is about dogs being properly fed and watered, why can't current law be enforced and why is this even being written?

That's a good point I forgot that comment in my post. I made that same comment to them on the phone that I'd rather just see current laws being enforced better. They just repeatedly reminded me I don't have anything to worry about. As I said above for now I almost do want to believe them but I do think we need to voice our concerns better to get things worded more favorably so they can't turn it against us in the future.

The concern should not be to get things worded more favorably. The concern should be to get rid of this Bill and enforce the laws that they have Now.

I watched a interview with Senator Alloway on Channel 8 News the other night. He said they are going after the people that tether their dogs 24/7 & 365. He made it sound as it would be completely illegal to have a dog outside.
There was never any mention of adequate housing or anything else being exceptable. I thought right then & there I might as well make plans to build a fence to keep people from seeing my dogs.
I've heard many people all ready commenting on Facebook because it passed its preliminary in the Senate, that they are happy & think it's all ready a Law.
I've contacted Alloway several times & he just refers you to a woman in Harrisburg that assures you that you have nothing to worry about.
I've commented on his Facebook Post several times & he never responds to any comments that aren't his agenda.
I've sat in on his "town meetings" and he says, him & his wife don't have kids so their dogs are their children.
You are dealing with a PETA supporter in my opinion here.
I've been hunting with dogs for 35 years & I've had my fill of dealing with bunny huggers & trying to explain my hounds with the local dog wardens.
I even had one stop last week because my dog was loose in my own yard.
She said my dog was to close to the road, I responded by; she wasn't on the road. She actually wasn't as bad to deal with as most I've dealt with over the years but I still get irritated because of my past dealings.
I even had one pick up one of my dogs when I was hunting once & they called me from the shelter & charged me $25 to give my dog back. I was looking for him for 2 hours & couldn't figure out why he quit a track & disapeard.

I didn't have a Garmin at that time so I had no idea where he got to.
If people don't start being heard you'll all find out what it's like.

I think we have been lulled into a false sense of security because there are so many tethering bills pending right now. It didn't look like any of them were going anywhere. Unfortunately this is the most dangerously worded one of all of them and this is the one that is in play! If you are from Pennsylvania you MUST call on this !!

And it goes beyond tethering. It specifies the dimensions of your dog house and what you can and can't bed with! Even those of you who do not tie dogs out need to be calling and opposing this!

This goes well beyond outlawing tethering. It also imposes sheltering requirements for all dogs kept outdoors, here's a taste:

The shelter must be a moisture-proof and wind-proof structure of suitable size to accommodate the dog and allow retention of body heat. At minimum, a shelter must meet the following dimensions:
(I) Depth - dog's length plus 12 inches.
(II) Width - dog's length plus 18 inches.
(III) Height - dog's height plus 3 inches on the low side of the shelter and dog's height plus 9 inches on the high side of the shelter.

No many replies from PA hunters. I wonder if there are facebook pages for PA hunters. That would be a good place to go to rally the hunters. The PA hunt clubs too.

If this makes it through and they actually have any intention of enforcing they're own law what do they think is going to happen to all these dogs that some people simply give up on trying to keep. I'm not saying I'll ever abandon mine but at the same token I do believe they would find an awful lot of these dogs people have tied behind they're house dumped on they're door step. Animal shelters are overran now, just wait until people start getting stiff fines for how they're dogs are housed.

Laurelville Coonhunters

I can also assure you that our club is aware and brought the bill up in our March meeting and it will be addressed in tomorrow's meeting as well. We asked our members to please contact their legislator and voice their opposition. I am also going to bring the contact information for Senator Alloway with me so they don't even have to look it up

I have gotten the "It's not you they're after" comment a lot lately. My immediate response is if they could put in writing, that it's OK to disregard the law???

The law is the law, and we can only assume they are not going to selectively enforce it.

I live in the middle of yuppyville, half my neighbors don't follow any of the laws, buy license or any of that bull.
They recently tried to enforce the licensing law, by saying they were going door to door, checking dog license. Putting it on the local news. I told my wife if they show up, to tell them to go get a warrant. Lol.
The funniest part is half my neighbors are either police, government officials, and even the feds. None of them could give two $h1ts about any dog laws.

His agenda for PA.

Jobs That Pay

Schools That Teach

Government That Works

This bill does nothing for PA. residents, flood his phone lines and let him know you object to this Bill.

Also any farmers you know that have a farm dog you just might want to give the contact info and have them call as well this Bill doesn't just affect coon hunters.

I just got off the phone with the governors office and I have to tell you every call I make feels a little like talking to my wife "In one ear and right out the other" to be honest with you guys. I'm really thinking we need more than phone calls to politician's offices. We need to be heard on TV and radio in opposition of this bill.

Have you tried contacting your local news station? I know a lot of stations have those segments about local folks with complaints/concerns.

Sara is right... what most politicians care about most, is the same thing we all do, which is staying employed, which means getting re-elected. Although they may be impressed by a large organization contacting them, what they are really worried about is the will of the people. They pass these sorts of bills because they think that's what the majority want, and if the real majority stays silent, then they can only assume it was the right thing.

They need to hear from those people that they represent, if not to ensure representation, to ensure they will have a job next term!

I have sent numerious e-mails and have not gotten one response from any of them. I called the local rep and got the impression that this bill has wide spread support, If every one lets this lay we are in trouble. I will keep calling.
