Im going to start building my new kennel this week. I know im using wood and making it off the ground. Just would like any suggestions and in put. Planning on using deck wood for the floor, but wondering how big of a space to put in between each plank. Also what will be the best fencing to use. Im also building new dog houses and need to know the best material to use to be light as possible.

On my above ground kennel I used the marine ply board just did it at an angle and scrape out the poop like I do with my concret kennels I feel its easier than reaching up under the kennel jmo my other above ground kennel is rough cut oak planks 1x6 and I didnt leave gaps

i used the wire off an old corn crib. worked great. i used a 2x4 for the space between the floor on one of my kennels. i felt it was a little to wide. did the next one i made then maybe half inch closer i liked that better but a little manure hangs up for a short time.

Ain't nothing wrong with toe cutters design. A buddy and I built one for his English dog. They get used to the spacing on the floor and get around just fine. Cleanup is easy and it keeps them clean and dry and away from the flies.

Here is mine. I made the floor out of pallets I get from work. The spacing in wide enough to help with his messes s but not to far it's hard to walk on. Going to finish boxing the barrel in for more warmth during winter months.

if I were building above ground, composite decking is the only thing I would even consider.

building on the ground, would be sand runs with concrete footers forming the pens.

in either, dog boxes would be inside of an insulated building.

I have tried or seen pretty much every variation of kennels. and anything else is just different ways to put a dress on a pig.

almost forgot, the best "wire" I have ever used for the kennels themselves is the 2"x4" holes/ 5' tall "horse panels" sold at farm stores. there is a 6' tall version (for exotics) if you can find them in your area. both come 16' long and you can cut them to your kennel size.

my kennels are made of those, with 1/2" steel rod welded to make the frame. they are around 16-18yrs old now and still in use.

I built mine 2 yrs ago and they worked out great, had to make a few changes along the way. I used kiln dried pine for the flooring because I wanted my spaces between the boards to stay the same. If you use treated lumber it will shrink and your spaces will be bigger and uneven over time. I stained and water treated both sides of my flooring. I used 4x4's for my floor frame and had to run a 4x4 every 4ft to lay the flooring on anything less is not stable enough. You also want to use hardware on each joint of the 4x4's to help hold the frame together. I built the frame on cinder blocks to keep it off the ground. I used 1/2inch spacing on the floor. I built it as a 16ft deep by 32 ft long deck. This way I can scoop the stool and wash the pee away. About once a month I throw down lime on the floor and sweep it down the cracks. This keeps the urine small away. My kennels have no smell at all. I can text you a pic, if you would like.

Composite Decking is the best thing money could buy for flooring. Stays clean, no splinters and doesn't absorb. The only down side is, it is heavy. Use treated on everything else.
