Well its been nearly ten years but finally happened again...my pup had an encounter with a skunk. What's the best way to get the smell off of my dc40? Lol

I have just about tried everything in my time...I can better tell you what don't work than what does. Forget the tomato juice B.S. that everyone jumps on...forget the Dawn dish soap and hydrogen peroxide and baking soda...they work about as good as the legendary tomato juice.
The only thing that has ever worked for me was a bottle of stuff I was given once from a trappers supply place. I don't remember the exact name but if you google trapping supplies and make a few phone calls and ask them I am sure you can find it. Wasn't expensive, like $6 or $7 a bottle. The main thing is that it worked.

Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover, works very well on the dog, but only time will remove it from the DC40! I don't know what it is about that housing, but it sure soaks up the stink!

You can get the Nature's Miracle at a local Tractor Supply.

Douche used to be my solution, as well. I think the vinegar cut the oils. And you could get them scented, which helped too.

I am not going to comment on previous post lol ..
Take the collar put it in a plastic bag and dump a box of baking soda in with it . Tie it shut and put somewhere other than in the house so your wife won't kill you . Leave for a few days , the baking soda will absorb the odor .
