I want to hear that secret or little trick you have or was passed down in your family that you use to raise a hounds or get him back on his feet after an illness I buy doxy and tetracycline off ebay under fish antibiotics use cow tags for tick and use goat wormer once a month tell me what you got

good feed , good worming routine w/ ivomectin , good housing and a yearly vet check . bout all it takes .

Clean teeth! Give em something they can chew on to help keep teeth clean of plaque build up. Sections of deer antler are good for this if your dog will chew them. Get an electronic toothbrush and some doggy toothpaste and brush their teeth every month or two depending on their condition. Bad cases should be taken to a vet for a good cleaning. This goes a long way toward their overall health and condition and is often overlooked.

I have heard about eggs I try to keep water clean and fresh to keep the skeeter larve out what are the signs you look for to tell if your hounds are healthy this seems like simple logic to most of us but you would be suprise at some of the hounds men I have met who don't have a clue

I had one get loose in the yard one evening before going hunting and he knocked over a jug of high octane VP race fuel I ran in my motorcycles on race days. He started slurping it up off the ground. I was a little concerned at first but when I took him hunting that night he seemed just fine. When I cut him loose I couldn't believe what I was witnessing, this mediocre coondog was busting through the woods and treein them coons just as good, if not better than every top dog listed on the forums classified adds. He got parked under a tree then all the sudden it got silent so I checked the Garmin. He was still in the same location he was when he treed but he wasn't moving, not doin anything. I walked to the tree and there he was laying right beside it with the coon comin down the tree to make his get away. I carried him home and put him on the porch so I could see what I was doing to try and revive him but nothing was working. I was about to give up on him until my dad came out and asked me what was wrong. I told him the story and he said that was a common routine. He'd been sneaking him out on nights I had to work late and had been trying things to give him a little more spark. He said he'd been giving him VP for weeks and he loved it and ran coons like a top for the first hour or so of hunting but he would quit on him too. Only instead of carrying him home Dad was just leaving him lay in the woods and coming home to get more gas because he was running out lol. Just Kiddin, happy hump day everyone!

my two lead dogs are 10 and 11 years old. each been marathon coon hunted since 4 months old to present and both have had serious injuries from tree climbing where thought neither would hunt again. both also been big game hunted. serious miles over a life time.

good dog food, wormer, if beaten up or injured always start antibiotics when hunt over until feeling well and if its bad give dex as well. for few years now have given both dogs glucosamine supplement and that seems to do wonders. also dogs never get out of shape and i think thats biggest thing. hunt hard year round and when dog is always in top shape keeps em healthy.

no doubt genetics play a huge part in dogs than can be ran hard for years and stay healthy as well. theres coyote and big game dogs that run 20,30,40 miles a day and hold up to it no problem.

hunting warm weather use your head and stay near water or put dogs in creek or pond between dumps. carry ice or frozen jugs to put in dog box.

not to many secrets just common sense.

I beleave your right exercise is very important I had never thought about it much my deer hounds get neglected in the off season in that department will have to find someway to fix that
