treeing house cats

Any suggestions on how to break a dog from treeing house cats. Trees coons but tree cat if he comes across one before a coon

I got news for you more peoples dogs will tree a house cat than what will admit to it. LOL
They're not a big problem most places I hunt but if my dog runs up on one that sucker's gettin treed.

.

I haven't ran or treed a house cat in over forty years. BUT and its a big but, two weeks ago in the final cast of the Senior Super Stake Hunt my dog ran a house cat that was close to where they turned loose on first drop. He had 100 minus in the first five minutes because of him liking that cat. He then got spilt with a coon for 100 and 100 but that cat I feel sealed his fate to finishing third. The competition was to good to overcome a mistake like that out of the box. So I will always think that cat cost me at least $3000 the difference in second and third a possibly $9000 which was the difference in first and third. Competition is too tough these days to overcome a mistake like my dog made as the other two dogs are top hounds. Without the cat I possibly could of still ended up third but that cat didn't help the cause.

House cat aint nothing. Wait till you get after a feral cat. Them things run like a deer for about a 1000 yards. Get way up in the tree and hide. Ive seen it. On a rqe one night. Everybody thought it was a coon till the guy with a dog not there spotted its tail

yeah Georgia we were just hide hunters and ran many a feral cat in the bottoms . they act just like them bobs and will bail on you as well but we would stick with them till we got them . worst thing that can happen to the small game population such as squirrel , rabbits and quail is to let them wild cat's as we called them lol get established .

House Cats

This brings back memories. Years ago I had a nice walker female who was straight as an arrow. When she was about 7-8 she went through a spell that she started treeing housecats. I mean like 6-7 of them in 2 weeks time. Seemed they were coming out of the woodwork. Didn't realize there were so many in the woods I hunted.

I thought I would try something to break her. It worked and she never messed with another one. EVER. PM me if you want to try to break her...

I had two young dogs that ran a house cat about 200 yds and bayed it on a lady's back porch. She broke them with a broom.

reminds me of a cast in Clinton MO about 25 yrs ago

we were under our 3rd tree of the night, and I had first and first on all 3 , me and the ol Pride dog were in high cotton..........till we looked too close at #3 and realized our "coon" was a pretty orange tabby cat

one of only I think 2 or 3 casts that dog ever lost.

Ol cat at the house has left marks on everyone of my hounds noses when they were small but when the hounds got bigger she ran and after treeing the cat a few times it was timber time.
