Blue english Rig/pack dog. Sold pending pickup
I have a blue male, grade dog, about 6 years old. I have had him for a little over 2 years so I know exactly what he is. I use him as a strike dog for bear and a pack dog for later in the race or if the bear is walking or bayed up. The truth is I have 8 dogs and have to thin down. 2 of those are coon dogs. Three of the remaining 6 are under a year old. One of the remaining three will run anything that moves. That leaves me with 2 that actually know what is all about and Henry is one of those. He is my best strike dog. You don't have to wake him up to go hunting. If I go out and start the truck he is ready. I turn him loose he goes to the truck. I have a rig box and If you slow down below highway speed he has his head out. If you drive around all day he is usually the last one to lay down in the box.
He has the desire to go but the reason I choose to part with him is my young dogs are speed deamons. Maybe I never ran him enough to keep him in shape maybe he don't have the heart. Whatever the reason, he is still a good strike and pack dog. He can start a hot track but he will also strike a lot of tracks that he can't line out himself. Nonetheless, he will find tracks. He does have some grit to him, he has been bitten and slapped around some. Especially if he is in bad company. He is blind in his right eye and has a scar across his snout. He was like that when I got him.
I'm not going to talk him up just to sell him I'm just being honest about my experiences with him. He will strike tracks that others drive across if you go slow. If you start him at the beginning of a race and it goes for miles he will drop out. If he strikes it and you start it with other dogs and put him in later and it trees or bays he will be there. He is just not a distance runner. If you can accept his strengths and weaknesses he can be an asset.
As far as coons, he hates a coon. He will tree a cage coon, fight one ect. But if you take him coon hunting you will be ready to kill him. He could care less. He will go to others that are running but won't stay when he realizes is not a bear. He may tree with others once in a blue moon but I wouldn't bet on it. Don't waste your time trying to coon hunt him.
He is not trashy. I have never had him run or strike anything but a bear and one hog track. He has been hog hunted some in the past i think but I never ran him on them. Bottom line is that if he strikes you can about bet your ass it's a bear. If he strikes and you find deer tracks I would look a little closer. He is not and will never be a truck to tree one dog pack and he will never be able to hang with what I have now but I can guarantee he is what I say he is. He has been there and done it and was instrumental in getting the dogs I have now started. He is not ill in any way other than over his food. He has kind of a squall/bawl voice. Not very loud but you won't mistake him for another dog. He has not been free cast much, mostly strike tracks from the truck or while walking. He packs good if he can hear them he will go.
I'll take $500 for him. I'm located around Dandridge Tn. Would prefer that he goes to someone in east tn or western nc. If he don't do what I say I would have to see it to believe it but I will still take him back. I won't sell or even give away a worthless dog. I have paid more money for dogs who's gene pools have stopped here.
If you are interested pm me with your number and I will call and I can also send you some pictures. Thanks
