I would say that a lot depends on the quality of the female and what kind of reproducer she was. I have seen "deals" worked out where the owner wanted pups out of his female but didn't want to have to breed her and raise the pups. It would also depend on what the owner of the female thought about the stud that you were going to breed her to. There are a lot of variables.
