Dogs have a brain just like anything else and each dog I've seen is like a human they have their own personality . This is a true story , one night my uncle and myself where going huntin went out n picked him up he had his smokey 2 hound outta my snap dog tied to his porch . I pulled up he came out grabbed him led him to the truck dropped tailgate smoke jumped up a put his head in dog box stopped backed out and was full fledged growling showing teeth hair standing up on him , he turned around jumped off the tailgate and literally attacked us like a police dog would . After we defused the situation and got him tied up away from us my uncle with a bloody four arm we just stood their and scratched our heads like what the hell just happened . We went on huntin and left him came back and you couldn't get near him he left him tied up same spot for few days took food n water to him but you had to sit down n run . My uncle ended up calling bet and they came n muzzled him and had him put down . This dog was never mistreated in no way but just snapped one day . Vet told my uncle its not uncommon for dogs to break down mentally or have so called mental problems .
when I first bought my old Ozarks Rebel Pride dog, he would EAT you alive if you got in the pen with him. open up the dog box and open the kennel, he would jump in the box and was your buddy the rest of the night.....until you put him back in the kennel anyway.
when I went to look at him for the first time, before I bought him, JD Cox had him. he warned me not to get in the pen and about the habit while we were standing there. I told him I didn't think I wanted a dog like that, and he said he will be fine once we let him out (and he was) but he was owned by a black man in Mound City KS till he was a yr old and the guy was always in trouble with the city for him barking, so he beat the H E double hockey sticks out of him for it every time he so much as barked once...and went in his pen to do it.
It took me 2 or 3 weeks before I could get in his pen while he was in there, before that when I would clean it, or feed and water him, I had to open the dog box and put him in it first. once he was out of the pen like say hunting or messing with him around the yard he was fine from day one.
long story short, he got over it with me and most everyone else, but there was no way in Hanna's heaven you could hunt him around a black person. he would flat out attack on sight. If I drew one in a hunt I had to just withdraw
I had a buddy who was black I ran into at hunts once in awhile, and he spent a long long time trying to get him over it and warm up to him but he never could. he was that way till he died of old age.
