Two newer products that we've had excellent results with are NexGard and Bravecto. They are both in the same class of drug and both are given orally. NexGard lasts 30-40 days, and Bravecto lasts 2-3 months for both fleas and ticks.

For areas with really bad ticks, then I like adding a Preventic (Amitraz) collar for added protection or Frontline Spray applied lightly prior to hunting.

Depending on the area you live in, you may experience poor efficacy of some of the older flea products. I'd say most of the topical products have had resistance issues for 3-5 years now. When it comes to fleas, you have to throw them a curve ball every now and then. NexGard is the best product I've seen for killing and preventing fleas on dogs. Both NexGard and Bravecto were studied in dogs at 1000 times recommended dosage. They are not only the best products to come along, they also have the highest safety margins.

Keeping the environment flea free is key. One flea can lay over 1000 eggs in the environment and once that life cycle gets started in your kennel, it can take up to a year to get rid of. Better to prevent, than to treat! Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Spray is highly concentrated "Advantage" and still works well in controlling environmental issues. Vet Kem makes some of the better premise sprays for treating and preventing environmental flea problems. We use their Siphotrol Plus product in our environment on a routine basis (monthly).
