I'll start by writing that the good casts have always out weighed the bad, so hope no one gets the idea most casts have cheating involved because they don't. BUT anyone who has comp hunted a few years will see the occasional person try to cheat and make for a miserable cast. The cast that will remain my worse ever because I'd never tolerate something like this to take place now days, happened when I was a teenager, nearly 30 years ago, back in the days when there were a LOT of dogs in a hunt and it took a good score to get a first place win. 4 dog cast, I was hunting a 2 year old Bluetick in his first cast. All 4 dogs go in a few hundred yards and get treed together. A dog fight then breaks out and everyone starts running toward them. A guy I'll just refer to as long legged is in the lead. The judge falls down a hill but everyone else keeps going so I keep following the long legged guy, who gets to the tree first. When I get there my dog and the dog of a guy that hitched a ride with us are treeing together just fine. Other 2 dogs are gone. When the judge got there the long legged guy says "I saw it all the Bluetick is the trouble maker" The judge says your dog is scratched for fighting. Well I may have been young but I had some fire in me and had read the rules, plus I had my short tempered USAF retired Master Sargent father back at the truck who I was pretty sure could and would have pounded these 2 into the ground if things got too out of hand, so I told the judge the He.. my dog is scratched, U are the judge and U didn't see anything and don't have a clue what really happened in here. He threw his light in my face and screamed at me about hunting mean dogs bla bla bla. The long legged guy then said well lets just let him withdraw, which I did as did the guy riding with us because he didn't like the turn of events either. The long legged guy then went and ran his dog down, led him back to the tree, found the coon and they plussed him! Then he and the judge cut their 2 loose again. They struck and treed and broke out in a fight. I said well looks like your going to have to write your dogs up and cast is over. They said well once the dogs get ralled up there isn't really anything U can do to keep them calm. The judge then said I'll just withdraw mine and they both told me if I made any issue of it it would result in my dog being wrote up! We refused to leave the cast and stayed with them. Next drop old long legged guys dog wallered a track for I'd say a good 35 to 45 minutes till they finally said shoot he's getting near a road (hadn't seen a car all night) and called time out and said we used 15 minutes that drop=SAY WHAT! Next drop same thing except I kept time and he wallered a track for around 45 minutes before they figured out a reason to call time out and judge said we used 25 minutes that drop=not true! last drop was a clean cow pasture and the dog actually got treed twice and judge instantly found the coon on both trees but wouldn't show me! Though they still had hunting time (supposedly) they were pushing deadline at this point and went back to club and yep won first place. I went on to make my dog UKC NT CH and NKC GR NT Ch without ever having him in another fight. The judge and the long legged guy both went on to win a mass of major events that most of us could only ever dream of. One or both might well read this but I don't really care, it's the kind of thing one never really ever forgets or forgives! But again this kind of stuff is rare and if a guy will just stand up and put his foot down and put a question on it wont happen at all.
