Going rate to have a dog hunted?

What is the going rate to run a started dog 30 nights in the woods?

I was quoted $1300 for 30 nights. Fella is a friend of mine. He never hunted a dog for anyone before. Called around and someone else gave him some going rates. I told him we were too far apart on rate.

Keith

The best thing to do to get one started, is to find one of those starting pens. They are usually around $350. I don't think there is any around here.

Honestly

It depends on a lot of things. If u want your dog hunted by his self drop after drop night after night than yeah 1300 is PROBALLY a fair price. But if u want it dropped with two or three other dogs that normally are other young dogs and maybe get hunt once a week by it's self than 300 to 400 is a going rate. No one can hunt another mans dog for even 500 a month by it's self six nights a week and that dog only and come out ahead. There going to be way in the whole unless they ride a horse or walk cause gas will break u up.

I usually keep 2 dogs and i hunt 7 nights a week at least 3-4 hours a night. I will most the time cut them one by one. Just depends on what the dog needs at that time. I go through more than $400 a month in gas. And im here to tell u it aint a easy job. MOST the time the dog they send aint worth what they are paying to have it hunted. $1300 a month is pretty steep though in my book. Im
Gonna start chargeing $600 and i dont care if i get one or not cause it is a headache. Plus im so busy hunting dogs for others i dont have room for one of my own.

if you are wanting this guy to hunt your dog ONLY for 30 nights then 400 is dirt cheap. I know a guy that hunts dogs for others and he charges 350 per month and most of the time he has 3 to 4 dogs. I asked him what he would charge to hunt a dog solo for 30 days and he said 1500 $. Consider this if he hunts 6 nights per week, hunting 3 dogs 4 drops per night one solo drop each and one drop together his is making $1050 per month on 3 dogs. You take the money he will be out only hunting 1 dog then it would only make sense to ask 1300 to 1500 .

If he hunted 30 nights for 3 hours a night at $10Hr it would be $900 and $10 a night for gas if he didn't drive far $300 for a total of $1200

Free

Had a few young guys do it for free, just to follow a good hound.
If they did a good job, I bought them, lites, shockers etc. cause they earned it and more. Check around I have people on call waiting when I get a good one, I only ask people to hunt a good one, make sure to check in on the dog just in case things go south, their is a risk.

Best thing is to hunt them your self, you may not like the way the dog handles or was handled when you get them back. And maybe allowed bad habits that you wouldn't allow your self. Just food for thought

It appears so. I can drive to my lease in 2 minutes. I could hunt 3 to 4 started dogs a month. Id do it for $450 a month and a bag of feed. I guess I need to start selling off my dogs and just hunt for the public.

If i was gonna do it it would be 1300 a month and thats 3 nights a week i dont know why it is that unreasonable to hunt somebody elses headache. it costs it costs almost 400 to let em run loose in a pen! and there is no gas or handling in a pen.
