Cable stops about 1/2 mile up the road but wife pays for Direct. Answer to getting by is to hunt more. Wife gets the TV for 9 - 10 months outa the year.

Right now I pay $140 a month for cable and Internet. If I dropped the cable it would save me $100 bucks a month.I would keep the Internet though. If needed I could put a TV antenna on my old cb tower for a better signal.Sounds like a good switch to me.

We don't have TV in the house, haven't for 20 years! I think its one of the best decisions we've made, I believe our children are better for it!! Like Doug said if something that is acceptable you can buy a DVD.

there are digital antenna's you can buy for around 100 at lowes and home depot.the higher they are the more receptions.
there is a web site( will need to see if I can find the address) that you can go to that is free that you type in your location and it will tell you how many tv stations you can pick up with one of them.

Haven't had it since we moved to the country 14yrs ago . We do have a conversion box that picks up local stations ABC , FOX , NBC and few others so I still get Saturday college football and Monday night but rarely here for it . Drives my son crazy when he is home . The girls have Netfix and could care less and read alot too . When the kids were younger we watched alot of movies , they still do when home . Also when they were younger between practice for football , wrestling , softball cheerleading and every other activity no one had much time for tv it was practice , dinner , homework and then to bed .
It is kinda like the stone age out here in the woods and simple living .

A new tv or digital converter box will allow you to pick up most your local channels.

We also have a Roku (around $89) that gives us access to Netflix + several other ala carte type options. Even has the Pursuit Channel & Outdoor Tv along with music stations. More options than I can list. Some require a fee, like Netflix $8 per month, & nearly all require signing up or registering. If you can run a smart phone & a computer you can figure it out.

We have wi-fi in the house so we can use our i-phones but wi-fi enables the Roku along with most kids video game systems to stream live Internet feeds.

My kids shows & family shows are typically reruns so Netflix works fine for us. The Roku can also be moved from tv to tv so if you typically only watch 1 tv on at time it works fine, otherwise a Roku box is needed for each tv, as well as a strong wi-fi signal.

There are other options besides Roku like AppleTv & etc that do mostly the same thing.

The only downside to our set-up is that you can't follow your favorite programs as they air, you can watch previous seasons but typically not current seasons.

Or just do more hunting & forget the tv.

I have Netflix as well. I got sick of the packages always going up with no return. Plus I don't have to worry about it not working when the dish freezes up or bad rain storms. Kids seem to like it just as good as cable or dish because there is no advertisement and they have a big list to choose from.

Jackson they have the didigital ants now that when your watching you cant tell the difference from cable or satilite. very good pic! that's what I have and can get prob! about 40-50 channels. all local. `from Detroit to Columbus to Cleveland. only cost me I think it was 69.95. you can run 2 tvs off the rotor box you get with it. better than paying 50-100 bucks a month. very easy to hook up. yes you can split the signal I have 1 up stairs and a tv in basement. change channels on eather 1 and watch different shows.

I have cable, actually it's Direct TV. It costs a lot of money and all I watch is fox news and the hero channel. The TV is almost never on. I've gotten to where I can not stand to look at the cultural/social engineering commercials. The antennas look like a good idea.
