Thumbs up Bone CollectorXKahuna pup

Here's a pup I just bought off Derek Dupree. I'm pretty excited about this pup. He's almost 6 months old. He absolutely eats up a caged coon. Heck of a mouth. This will be my first walker dog, so if yall can, let me know what you think about the traits I need to know about. The good and the bad. So far I have a bullet2 bluetick male, a Sandhill English dog, and a walker pup out of Bone Collector! You talk about a variety!

He is off Bone Collector and a Kahuna female. The Kahuna female is GrNite Ch and her mother was also the mother to Mojo. I'll put the pedigree on here when I get the papers.

Bobby welcome to our world !
Bone typically throws a well balanced hound . They are generally a more trailing type hound than some of the others in the walker world and most are not gonna open everytime their foot hits the ground . Many are going to be much more independent than most blue dogs - training an independent pup is can require more patience than others ... don't be surprised that even as a pup it is off doing it's own thing (right or wrong) when your other dogs are doing theirs but once your pup figures it out it will require no help in treeing coons . Many Bone dogs are more accurate than some other lines and not as action packed (treeing everywhere) - but accuracy wins , as the Bone dogs have proved over and over . There are several threads on Bone on here for more reading .
Good Luck with your pup

Thanks Cheyenne! Here's a picture of the second pup I bought. He's wipout bred. His dam is out of tequila sunrise. His sire is bone collector too.

Is it best to give these type of pups plenty of training at home on drags and live coons before you take em to the woods?

Pick one and hunt the carp out of it. Training one pup is challenging and difficult, training 2 is next to impossible for a beginner. Be patient, read as much as you can, the dog whisper books are a good place to start.

These blog post by John are good.

Find the best hunting spots you can, this is half the battle.

Think twice before pushing the button on that e collar.

Be patient and don't brag up your pup if he is doing well, just say he is doing good and leave it at that.

Hunt him alone, avoid any petting or squalling on tree, especially once he starts treeing.

Keep him in coon and let him practice, practice, practice.

Always be smarter then the dog not tougher.

I've trained a lot of dogs, mainly Blueticks. I've hunted over 30 years, this is just my first round at hunting walkers. Ive been thinking about getting me some walker dogs for a while. I agree with you though, its easier to train one than it is two. But I was just wondering about some of the specific traits these pups out of bone tend to have. I'll probably single the one I want out and then sell the other one??? Don't know yet. Might take one one night and the other the next night??? We'll see! But either way, I'm in transition right now from just being a bootick man???!!!!

Oic, you look younger in that pic.

Bone dogs are supposed to be well balanced, easy starters, fast and accurate.
I would avoid any of the petting up and encouragement on tree, as with most walkers squalling, petting, etc around the tree just causes to much excitement and can lead to poor tree manners.
I take both pups when hunting more then one, ill drop one for an hr, while the other stays in the box and the drop the other for an hr. One usually rises to the top fairly quickly.
If I get annoyed with one or fed up, I just put the pup in the box, and hunt the other rather then getting mad and frustrated.
