Dog training advice needed

IMG_0816.jpeg
First off I don't even know if the dog is a coonhound.
Second I caught a coon in a trap and proceeded to drag the caged coon about 100 yards. The dog followed the the trail slowly and when he got to the cage that I had tied up, he couldn't find it. Please let me know if I did something wrong or if this happens to every young dog. And then again this was his first time.

Just keep workin with your pup give it time and be patient. It might help if you make shorter drags to start with then gradually make them more difficult. Just don't hang the coon up where it can see it to much it could ruin your them and might make it a tree jacker.
