James D. Bowling Obituary

James D. Bowling, 56, died the night of December 3rd, 2014 of a massive heart attack while coon-hunting with his friend and beloved hounds near his residence in Moorefield, IN. He was born November 1, 1958 in Milan, IN.
James is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vonda K. Bowling, his son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Jordan Bowling, and daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Jason Dameron all of Milan; his 4 grandchildren; Blaine, Wyatt, Jaden, and Olivia; his brothers and sister; Betty Jo(Gene) Copeland of Breckenridge, Colorado, Rick(Diana) Bowling of Morrow, Ohio, Mike(Barbara) Bowling of French Lick, and Sulvan(Thuy) Bowling Jr of Farmers Retreat.; and his brother and sister-in-laws; Will Disbro, Greg Disbro, David Disbro, and Tonya Fletcher. James is preceded in death by his parents; Sulvan and Nancy P. Bowling; his nephew Michael Bowling Jr.; and his father and mother-in-law; Bill and Sallie Disbro.
James was a 1977 graduate of South Ripley High School. He was an 18 year veteran of the US Air Force and rose to the rank of Tech Sergeant. He received the Air Force Service Award Ribbon, NCO Professional Education Graduate Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon, and was certified as an expert marksman and he also was distinguished as one of the top 10 recruiters by the Air Force. He was currently the maintenance supervisor and events coordinator for Hanover College and had formerly worked in maintenance at Argosy Casino. He is also the announcer for the American Wrestling Association.
James was a member of the Milan American Legion, Milan VFW, American Coon hunters Association, and the Long Run Baptist Church at Vevay. James lived to entertain his friends and family. He sang and played his guitar to bring joy to all of those around him, he provoked his friends with the occasional prank, he was an incredible performer, singer, writer, and commentator; but most of all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 10th at 10:30am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Casey Banta officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery at Elrod. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4pm to 8pm. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
